MRI technologist performs basic and complex MR imaging procedures and may be assigned post-processing responsibilities. Complex imaging procedures can be identified by the presence of five of the six following characteristics; a physician s presence is required, complex equipment is used, there is a vascular injection of paramagnetic contrast media, series of slices is taken to produce diagnostic images of the human anatomy and vascular following prescribed protocols and procedures. The MR Technologist prepares and administers paramagnetic contrast media in accordance with department, hospital, policy and state and federal regulations, maintains accurate up-to-date records of procedures performed; ensure accurate processing of Radiology orders in the Electronic Health Records and exercises strict patient confidentiality. The MR Technologist must perform accurate image archival via appropriate local archival media and perform accurate verification and archival of complete MR exams on the GE PACS Centricity workstations. The MR Technologist is also required to operate various post processing/3D workstations. The MR Technologist is required to float/flex between various scanning locations staffed by UCLA, adhere to the on-call, holiday, weekend and weekly work schedules as prepared by the Lead Technologist or Director and participate in rotating shifts. The MR Technologist must maintain current CRT, ARRT and CPR certifications.


The MR Technologist must maintain current CRT, ARRT and CPR certifications. Knowledge of medical and scientific terminology, with the ability to distinguish between types of medical procedures and diagnoses. Knowledge of human anatomy and pathology. Understands the requirement of EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act). Ability to identify and recognize contraindications for exams. Ability to be flexible with working hours given adequate notice. Ability to rotate to Santa Monica Hospital MR Section and Santa Monica Outpatient MR Section as needed. Demonstrated knowledge of clinical billing (IDX codes) to ensure appropriate accounting and reimbursement of services rendered. Knowledge of cross-platform computers, application and peripherals, as well as general office equipment. Ability to adapt to advancements and changing technologies.
