JOB DESCRIPTIONMACHINE OPERATOR. Employees are directly involved in activities that contribute to the production of the company's products. This entry-level production job may be assigned to grinding, the blast operation or the sort conveyor in the foundry or injection molding, drill and tap or Kaufman in manufacturing. Work may be assigned to a particular station or on a rotational basis. Applies knowledge of routine work area procedures, completes standardized activities. Resolves task related problems in straightforward situations. Emphasis may be on manual skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED. Sets up machine, hand tools and work area to safety specifications and standards.
Controls and adjust machine settings.
Watches gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure machine is working properly.
Inspects parts with precision and measuring tools.
Monitors machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary, stopping machine when problems occur.
Maintains activity log.
Checks quality of work in progress to pass audits while maintaining a continuous output.
Completes and turns in accurate and legible daily production records documenting workstation rates.
Shuts down (powers off) equipment as instructed, i.e., during breaks, changing wheels, and end of day.
Applies common sense understanding when following oral and written instructions.
Uses 5S principles to label and store inventory, materials, and tools and to maintain cleanliness and safety of work station and surrounding area.
Applies Lean Manufacturing principles.
Reports the need for equipment maintenance, repair and operating supplies.
Works safely, follows the organizations safety rules and regulations, and assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
Stands stationary at workstation without sitting or leaning using repetitive hand motion, arm, and shoulder motion at a continuous pace.
Bends, stoops, crouches, reaches, and pulls.
Walks, cleans, and completes paperwork.
Lifts and moves up to 40 pounds.
Inspects parts using near vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
Regularly exposed to humid conditions, airborne particles, extreme cold and heat. (Foundry building has overhead heaters, fans, and air socks for better working conditions).
Exposed to high heat, sparks (if grinding) and loud noises from multiple machines running at the same time.
Regularly exposed to moving wheels while making repetitive hand and arm movement.
Daily expected production rates can be stressful to those inexperienced in production.
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Basic knowledge and literacy of machine operation preferred.
