POSITION OVERVIEW

The machinist position within the Kimball Electronics Machine Shop (also known as, Tooling Center) is a service provider for internal customers. These customers are typically individuals or teams from engineering, customer focus teams and operations leadership. Organizationally, the (Tooling Center) is placed within the Manufacturing Engineering branch of engineering. Functionally, the Tooling Center is the one stop shop for assisting customers in the planning and execution of hardware needed for production.

A machinist working within the Tooling Center is responsible for all facets of tool development not to exclude, conceptual design, feasibility analysis, advisor for cost effectiveness of fabrication, outsourcing, CAD/CAM programming, document control of drawings, and fabrication and assembly of the tools. A successful machinist is a self-motivated individual with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and has a broad knowledge of materials, fabrication tools, and techniques.

BASIC CANDIDATE BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS

A US person by ITAR definition

Successfully Interview with relevant hiring team
*

Successfully pass pre-employment drug test
*

AS degree in Machine trades, or 5 yrs. experience in machining and fabrication

KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (IN PRIORITY ORDER) WITH SUB-TASKS

Week 1:

*

Complete required HR, Safety, Quality, RoHS, and Benefits Orientation
*

Complete IPC 6.10 Training and pass post training assessment
*

Able to clock in and out of Kronos time keeping system
*

Comply and have a thorough understanding of ESD controls and safe guards
*

Open and close work request in Engineering SharePoint sites
*

Understand location of in-shop tools and materials
*

Achieve safety sign off on shop equipment
*

Utilize email

Week 2 6 months

*

Maintain attendance record with less than a 2% absenteeism rate
*

Demonstrate clear, concise and non-offensive verbal communication
*

Demonstrate safe and consistent utilization of equipment and applicable safety guards
*

Complete Lock out / Tag out training
*

Gain access to ITAR controlled documents related to tooling development
*

Keep personal data up to date and accurate in ESS
*

Understand 5S and suggest improvements
*

Thorough understanding of drives and storage locations within the company s network for documents
*

Demonstrate the ability to self-manage a project and push to closure.
*

Demonstrate the ability to format and formally document the tools being designed
*

Understand and utilize project team listing, to establish key contacts
*

Understand chemical labeling and hazardous waste storage as it relates to chemicals used in the Tooling Center
*

Communicate with customers and relevant team members to insure maximum understanding of tooling limitations (i.e. safety concerns, failure modes, maintenance needs, ergonomics, etc.)

6 months +

Establish outside network of outsource partners for special machining processes and work over-flow
*

Navigate and retrieve all necessary product information from SAP
*

Demonstrate the efficient use of CAD software (MasterCam, AutoCad, GerbTool, PrimCam)
*

Develop understanding and ability to generate G-Code programs for production routers
*

Follow all handbook practices
*

Able to relate shop activities to vision and guiding principles
*

Sustain a less than 2% absenteeism rate
*

Promote 5S and improve audit scores
*

Sustain an injury free record
*

Generate purchase order requisitions for materials and supplies
*

Integrate improvement ideas to make the shop a Show Case area of functional support
*

Establish a working relationship with customers. become an advisor for fabrication and machining
