POSITION INFORMATION

The University of California, Riverside has an immediate opening for a qualified Maintenance B-Lead Sheet Metal/Welder. Maintenance B-Lead Sheet Metal/Welder is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Sheet Metal and Welding Shop in the supervisor's absence. Facilitates work order fulfillment for fabrication, assembly, installation and repair of sheet metal products and equipment. Operates and trains others on fabricating machines, equipment, methods and materials used in performing various welding operations. Ensures work is performed in a safe manner at all times. Ensures work orders are dispatched appropriately and timely. Performs project estimating for time, labor and materials on sheet metal and welding projects. Place orders and/or receives materials based on work orders received and scheduled work. Ensures appropriate utilization of resources, seeks out opportunities to improve customer service and efficiency.

**Reporting to the division of Business & Administrative Services (BAS), Facilities Services is one of the largest departments at UC Riverside employing nearly 400 career employees. Facilities Services provides exceptional service in maintaining an environment conducive of teaching, learning, living, working and research for the entire campus community. The department maintains buildings, facilities and landscape totaling over 6 million square feet across 1,350 acres of campus. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Seven or more years of journey-level experience in welding or metal fabrication or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; and four years experience in a lead or supervisory role or an equivalent combination of education or training.

Demonstrated experience in the installation, maintenance, operation, inspection in the welding or metal fabrication trade. Demonstrated skill in various welding techniques and associated tools; shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, and/or electroslag welding. Demonstrated experience in cutting, bending, assembling of various metals; experience with breaks, shears, threaders, bending, forging, forming and machining.

Knowledgeable in the safe use and maintenance of various hand and power tools, metal shop equipment and associated safety practices. Know ledge of the tools and equipment used for welding job such as shielded metal arc, gas metal arc or other welding equipment. Knowledge able in the safe operation of welding and fabrication equipment, personal protective equipment and safe work practices. Knowledge of common safety procedures, regulations, and applicable codes. Familiar with proper handling procedures of asbestos, mold, and lead paint. Ability to communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards. Know ledge of the Uniform Building Code, Industrial Safety Standards, and code procedures.

Skill in operating shop equipment such as pipe threading machine, welding equipment, drill press, and various hand and power tools. Skill in using hand and power tools. Skill in proper application of precision measuring and calibration equipment. Skill in reading and analyzing construction and renovation project plans.

Physical ability to work in confined and dusty spaces; able to lift 50 lbs.; work on rooftops, ladders, scaffolding, lifts or stages at height of 25 feet above grade; able to wear respirator. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels may exceed 90 dB; able to work where temperature may exceed 125 degrees F Physical ability to work from ladders or scaffolding, and inside boilers and receivers.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a diverse population of campus customers, contractors, consultants, and support staff. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Must successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment background check and physical and drug screen.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Welding or Metal Fabrication Certification.

Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Knowledge of the UCR campus policies and procedures.
