Excellent opportunity for experienced plumbing and trades person with busy university campus. The maintenance B - plumber will perform journey level work to maintain, install and repair pipes of water and drainage systems. Install and repair filtration, and reverse osmosis purification equipment; air compressors, pumps and related components/equipment. Assembles and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes. Joins pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings or solder, and caulk joints. Install and repair a variety of plumbing fixtures and equipment. Performs record keeping of labor and materials used for maintenance and repair. Performs minor routine maintenance on tools and equipment, and assist with minor electrical repair associated with plumbing fixtures and minor carpentry.
**Reporting to the division of Business & Administrative Services (BAS), Facilities Services is one of the largest departments at UC Riverside employing nearly 400 career employees. Facilities Services provides exceptional service in maintaining an environment conducive of teaching, learning, living, working and research for the entire campus community. The department maintains buildings, facilities and landscape totaling over 6 million square feet across 1,350 acres of campus. Four years' experience working at the journey level as a plumber, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working as a plumber with industrial/commercial plumbing fixtures, pipes, connectors, boilers, hot water heaters, and hot water storage tanks.Skilled use and application of hand and power tools including plumbing drain equipment.
Knowledgeable in the use and maintenance of various hand and power tools, metal shop equipment and associated safety practices. Knowledge of the tools and equipment used for welding job such as shielded metal arc, gas metal arc or other welding equipment. Knowledge able in the safe operation of welding and fabrication equipment, personal protective equipment and safe work practices. Knowledge of common safety procedures, regulations, and applicable codes. Familiar with proper handling procedures of asbestos, mold, and lead paint. Ability to communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards. General knowledge and intended use of plumbing, mechanical, and electrical blueprints and diagrams. Knowledge of application of the Uniform Plumbing Code. Skill in the general repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of reverse osmosis purification equipment.
Physical ability to work from ladders or scaffolding, and inside boilers and receivers. Physical ability to work in confined and dusty spaces; able to lift 50 lbs.; work on rooftops, ladders, scaffolding, lifts or stages at height of 25 feet above grade; able to wear respirator; able to work in areas where noise levels exceed 90 dB; able to work where temperature may exceed 125 degrees F.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse population of campus customers, contractors, consultants, and support staff. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Ability to prioritize daily work orders to complete assignments. Ability to prioritize and complete daily work load assignments. Able to work occasional scheduled and unscheduled overtime and emergency call-back.
Skill in providing exemplary customer service and working effectively in a team environment.
Must successfully complete pre-employment physical and DOJ, FBI background check.
CPR/First Aid certification.
Trade specific license and/or certification.
Knowledge of personal computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Knowledge of the UCR campus policies and procedures.
