Job Function


Primary Functions

Works under minimal supervision to repair, service and maintain mechanical equipment at cogeneration plant and remote customer sites.

Repairs and maintains gas turbine generators, steam boilers and turbines, electric and steam chillers, compressors, pumps, piping and valves.

Perform preventative and or corrective mechanical maintenance on plant equipment.

Qualify to operate power plant and chill water plant as auxiliary operator.

Follows standard and established practices, refers to operation and service manuals to evaluate needed repairs, maintenance and parts.

Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment or repair.

Monitors, evaluates and troubleshoots condition of operating equipment, controls and safeties to insure continued safe operation and life cycle performance.

Dismantle machine or equipment to examine parts for defect or to remove defective parts and replace defective parts with new part or repair parts.

Prepares and assembles piping/valves systems including threading pipe, welding, brazing, soldering.

Performs routine repairs to pump seals, bearings, etc.

Read prints, diagrams and drawings necessary to perform maintenance and parts replacement, uses micrometers, dial gauges, strain gauges, etc. to take close tolerance measurements.

Interprets specifications from blue prints, work orders and equipment

Safety operates shop equipment, hand and power tools for repair work, fabricating and general shop tasks. Required to operate forklift in accordance with plant policy and training requirements.

Responsible for cleaning of assigned work areas and maintenance shop, including proper care and maintenance of tools. Other Cleaning and paintingas required.

Responsible for carrying out work assignments in an efficient manner to maximize productivity.

Required to work both scheduled and unscheduled overtime to support plant activities.During outages and emergency events, will be available for duty status and call-insoutside of normal work duties and at hours outside of normal work day.

Complies with all GDF SUEZ site and corporate safety rules and procedures.Responsible for following plant safety procedures, guidelines and rules as job functions are performed and reporting any unsafe condition or act to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsible for knowing and following the plant environmental procedures and reporting any environmental conditions or acts to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Knowledge of cranes and hoists. Ability to rig equipment for proper lifting

Responsible for knowing and following Maintenance Department procedures and policies.

Required to actively participate in and complete all required training programs.

Maintains and lubricates machine tools and equipment.

Acts as a team member with all employees of GDF SUEZ Energy staff and Complies with all GDF SUEZ Energy policies and procedures


Carries out other duties as assigned


Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and must be insurable under the Company auto insurance program.

Capable of frequently standing, walking, balancing, sitting, climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, stacks and the like as required), stooping, squatting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting (min. 50lbs), feeling, talking and hearing.

Capable of performing repetitive motions as required

Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, and manuals

Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas, pipes and the like) as required

Must be physically capable of performing demanding work at various heights and in adverse conditions during operations, shutdowns, and in fire/emergency activities

Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses etc.

Ability to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test (if applicable)

Ability to meet highest attendance requirements


High school and 3 years in the power industry or similar environment.

Engineering Degree (2 yr min.) preferred

Must possess 3years experience in welding and fabrication skills and obtain a formal welding certificate within one year of start of employment

Must have 3years experience working in Power Plant as maintenance mechanic

Must have knowledge of power generating equipment and technology (Chillers, Boilers,

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

70% of the work is performed indoors and 30% is performed outdoors.
