Under direct supervision of the Lead Mammography Technologist, Breast Imaging Manager, and Medical Director, Breast Imaging technologist will produce diagnostic images of the breast utilizing a variety of mammography and or ultrasound equipment. Duties include patient education prior to the examination frequent interaction with the patient during the exam; preparation of needed supplies and equipment set up; assist in performing sterile technique procedures as required; follow established quality assurance procedures; maintain patient dignity and confidentiality; assist Radiologist as needed; perform related duties as requested. Breast Imaging technologist are expected to possess the skills, knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to the position. Participate in departmental In-Service training programs. Practice sterile techniques maintain aseptic conditions and use universal precautions at all times. Perform first aid on patients until further assistance can be obtained to maintain patient s health. Exercise strict patient confidentiality. Monitor patient s comfort while in the department. Demonstrate a professional attitude by being courteous towards patients, co-workers, and physicians. Review Radiology request for appropriateness. Coordinate exams with other services as needed. Coordinate transfer of patient to the observation area as needed. Follow departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Maintain accurate up-to-date records of procedures performed. Ensure Radiology requisitions are properly completed. Initiate proper requests for required maintenance or repair of equipment. Inspect all devices for damage and ensure they are operating within accepted parameters. Maintain accurate record of all supplies used and initiate orders to maintain supply par levels. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion. Comply with Medical Center health and infection control policies. Comply with personnel standards in employee and technologist handbooks. Adhere to departmental attendance and tardiness policies. Float between various UCLA Health Systems mammography departments.
Graduate of a Radiologic Technology Training Program approved by the American Medical Association. Must be Certified Radiology Technologist in Mammography. One to two years experience in Breast Imaging preferred. Skill in listening and comprehending information received in person or over the phone. Ability to perform all physical requirements pertaining to the transport of patients in beds, gurneys and wheelchairs. Skill in reading and writing in standard English text to respond to call and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members and all hospital personnel. Ability to operate mammography equipment, PACS review workstation and Laser printer. Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to communicate with patients and staff. Ability to understand medical terminology, interpret clinical data and adjust technical factors to produce optimal images. Ability to work as part of a team in a medical setting. Ability to work under stressful conditions with frequent interruptions.
