JOB DESCRIPTIONSUMMARY: Management Trainees (MT) will gain knowledge and training in the Seaboard Foods connected food system. Trainees will be hired into a designated department based on skills, education and interest. Trainees will receive departmental, business management, and supervisory and leadership training necessary to prepare them for supervisory positions or technical roles in the future. The training program will last from 8-12 months. Upon completion of the program, trainees will be able to apply for open positions in supervisory or technical roles within Seaboard Foods.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following: (other duties may be assigned)
Trainee Development Program:
* Orientation and connected food system overview, with exposure and understanding of core areas of the business, including support departments
* Specific technical training in areas of interest and skills, depending upon needs
* Supervisory, leadership, communication and problem solving training
* Business management and strategies
* Trainees may be asked to work in various areas and locations in production, processing, or support areas, as needed throughout the training period
Accounting Management Trainee:
The accounting trainee will train under the operations controller and will spend their training program in Guymon, OK - either at the processing plant or in the live operations office. The trainee will learn the day-to-day accounting tasks in various divisions of a large company and will be trained on company-specific items and terminology. The accounting department at Seaboard Foods is focused on cost accounting and the trainee will work on projects working with the budget, accounts payable, financial statements, monthly financial reports, account reconciliations, month end close processes, cost analysis and others as needed by the controller. The trainee must have a general interest in accounting, be proficient in Microsoft Excel, have excellent math skills, and be able to use a computer comfortably.
Business Analyst Trainee:
This individual will train to complete key strategic business projects that relate to protein processing operations, scheduling, sales analysis, supply chain management, and other related departments. After the individual gains adequate exposure to operational products and processes, the trainee will work as a business analyst in business data and analytics, sales, margin management, supply chain or a related department. A business analyst will be a master of intelligence and data management in the area of margin maximization, and will work closely with other key individuals across departments depending on the project assigned. The trainee must be able to spend 6-12 months at the processing plant in Guymon, OK, and work with operations to understand efficiencies and plant differences.
Distribution Center - Supply Chain Management Trainee:
The distribution center - supply chain MT program is designed to prepare the candidate for a future supervisory role in the department. The MT will learn how to manage the flow of farm supply inventory, both physically and financially through the supply chain from purchase to farm delivery. The trainee will learn the fundamentals of customer order management, supplier management, purchasing, physical distribution and delivery. MTs will learn how to measure and manage safety, service, and accuracy and cost outputs by leveraging key performance metrics and reports. The candidate will have exposure to other departments that the distribution center -supply chain department works closely with, and will see roles in supervisory, leadership training, communication and problem solving. Trainees may be asked to work in various areas of the department as needed through training.
Environmental Resource Management (ERM) Management Trainee:
The ERM MT program is designed to prepare the candidate for a future supervisory role in the ERM department. The MT will work alongside a supervisor who serves as their mentor throughout the program. The candidate will be trained on the safety and how to handle chemicals and CO2 and operate heavy machinery. The trainee will also learn how to apply and pump effluent out of rain reels, pivots, complete transfers, and maintain lagoon levels to make sure they are in compliance with state regulations. Along with outdoor labor, the candidate will also spend time doing data entry, such as filling out pump sheets and weekly reports. The MT may be on call for spills and will be rotated on call for "Jim Jets." This position is located in Guymon, OK.
Farm Management Trainee:
The farm MT program is designed to prepare the candidate for a future management role in farm operations. The program is completed in phases. Farm MTs will learn to tend and care for pigs in all stages of production, as well as learn to manage a farm and personnel within the Seaboard Foods system. MTs will rotate through each farm stage: sow, nursery, and finisher. MTs will be expected to learn and perform each task within the farm successfully, including but not limited to: monitoring feed and water supply, cleaning and disinfecting pens and alleys, treating animals as needed, processing piglets, monitoring barn environment and ventilation, record-keeping, and managing reporting, employee discipline, and scheduling. Farm MTs must be able to work assigned weekends and rotate through an on-call schedule. Upon successful completion of the Farm MT program, MTs may be able to apply for supervisory positions, such as department team leader, assistant supervisor, or supervisor. There are various locations for this position, including: northeast/southeast Colorado, Iowa, western/southwest Kansas, the Oklahoma panhandle, central Oklahoma, and the Texas panhandle.
Farm Maintenance Management Trainee:
The maintenance MT program is designed to prepare the candidate for a future supervisory role in the maintenance department. The MT will learn to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and inspect for the following but not limited to: automated feed systems, fresh water systems, recycle systems, cool cells, ventilation, controllers, and penning for animal production facilities to ensure operations run efficiently and effectively. Some paperwork such as work records and daily paperwork are also required. This position is located in Guymon, OK.
Feed Ingredient Merchandising Trainee:
The feed ingredient merchandising trainee program is designed to prepare the candidate for a future role on the feed ingredient merchandising team. The program will spend time in all areas of trainee development. The MT will work with ingredient inventory, ingredient ordering, ingredient purchasing, logistics, accounting, and customer service. The trainee will learn how to execute grain purchases, contracts, and settlements. Along with these areas, the trainee will also learn basics of documentation such as: contract balances, storage balances, and pricing information. The individual will be introduced to consumer risk management strategies for both cash grain (basis) trading as well and futures/options trading. This position is located in Rolla, KS.
Feed Mill Management Trainee:
The feed mill MT program is designed to prepare the candidate for a future supervisory role in feed milling. The program is completed in phases by exposing the MT to different departments of the mill. Feed mill MTs will rotate through each area of the mill (scale house, receiving, control room, dispatch, inventory, clerical, feed accounting, feed ordering, etc.) in order to gain knowledge of each department. The trainee will learn the operational side of the business from the ground up through on-the-job training. Locations for this position include: Optima, OK; Okeene, OK; Hugoton, KS; Leoti, KS; Holyoke, CO; Iowa Falls, IA.
