GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Manager Environmental Services is responsible for the effective leadership of Environmental Services which includes the successful management of client/customer relations, patient and customer satisfaction, program quality standards, performance improvement, and personnel performance and productivity. The Manager is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of Environmental Services. The Manager ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and for established policies and procedures. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



BUDGET/FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

*

Ensures department operates within budget; controls expenses within area of responsibility.
*

Analyzes and justifies workload trends and staffing levels.
*

Monitors and purchases supplies and equipment when necessary.

CUSTOMER RELATIONS

*

Develops and promotes positive effective customer service relations with patients, patient family members, visitors, and staff.
*

Ensures safe, comfortable, pleasant, and efficient patient environmental services; ensures accurate and timely delivery of cleaning services, and other environmental services-related items; ensures maximum staff productivity.
*

Resolves problems related to patient, visitor, staff, or employee complaints; resolves problems associated with environmental services.

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and manages functions and activities of patient transportation department while minimizing cost.

Interacts daily with nursing and other support departments; ensures the delivery of quality and timely service to patients, physicians, visitors, and staff.

Schedules paid time off and other benefit time; ensures adherence to departmental staffing guidelines on a daily basis; ensures adequate staffing levels are maintained; ensures accuracy of all appropriate records and time sheets.
*

Adheres to and promotes employees compliance to standard universal and disease-specific precautions and the OSHA blood borne pathogen standard; works to comply with all federal and state regulatory agencies.
*

Coordinates departmental training and orientation programs; conducts regular manager meetings with staff.

ADMINISTRATION

*

Assists in maintaining a high level of efficiency and productivity in providing all housekeeping, linen, and inventory tasks.
*

Performs a variety of housekeeping and floor care inspections & tasks.
*

In the absence of the Environmental Service Assistant Director, will provide leadership, direction and equity for and in dealing with all employees.
*

Ensures an effective and cohesive working relationship with department employees, department heads, hospital staff, and the public.
*

Ensures regulatory compliance regarding safety, sanitation for patients, guests, and employees.
*

Ensures that public areas are appropriately sanitized to project a strong positive image.
*

Communicates pertinent policy & procedure information to ensure compliance to infection control and sanitation standards.
*

Provides multi-disciplinary support services.
*

Participates in employee awareness training and education.
*

Develops and implements efficient/productive cleaning methods.
*

Familiarity with TJC, OSHA, CMS, inspections, and with chemical sanitizers and general housekeeping functions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



*

High School Diploma, equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
*

One or more years of customer service experience working with patients preferred.
*

One or more years of hospital experience preferred.
*

Leadership and management skills necessary to plan, organize, direct and control the activities of employees. Service/quality mentality and attitude. Strong supervisory skills.
*

Effective organizational and time management skills.
*

Ability to interpret financial and statistical data and to distinguish trends and other factors that impact operational activity.
*

General business acumen.
*

Excellent verbal, written, listening, organizational, time management, and presentation skills.
*

Ability to provide excellent judgment for problem solving related to the performance of associates coordination of activities related to patient environmental services.
*

Displays interpersonal savvy and can build constructive and effective relationships.
