The Manager, Geosciences is responsible for geological / geophysical department staff and serves as a team lead that reviews and develops various plays and projects to make recommendations to Senior Management.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

*Provide day-to-day technical oversight for geologists and technical assistants
within Exploration and Geoscience Technology Team by developing and
maintaining technical project plans prioritizing and delegating work and
managing milestones, deadlines and budgets.
* Collaborate with geophysicists and petrophysicists team members in
developing all primary work products; collaborate with Earth Model team to
continuously integrate understanding of the rock into Laredos multivariate
analytics; interact and collaborate with other functional teams at Laredo (eg
Reservoir Engineering, Completions Engineering, and Drilling)
* Oversee development of regional scale maps that characterize both reservoir
and geomechanical properties
* Develop, coach, and mentor direct reports; provide leadership, guidance and
direction in identifying and troubleshooting areas of concern.
* Provide technical oversight for development planning support including
ranking and prioritizing multi-well development packages
* Recommend technical projects that directly impact Laredos bottom line,
versus support science for the sake of science
* Lead the development of composite play-risk maps and supporting
fundamental maps at basin and local scales by formation



Knowledge and Skills:

* 15 plus years experience with an E&P operator with Masters degree-level
education in geosciences
* Prior experience working unconventional plays essential
* Permian Basin experience preferred though not required
* Deep technical thinker
* Prior experience leading technical teams
* Positive, innovative and demonstrates an ability to keep an open mind
* Develops multiple working hypotheses and avoids cognitive bias pitfalls
* Technically rigorous, ensuring peer review and quality assurance controls in
place in the development of all technical work products
* Well-versed in the common technical challenges, issues ,pitfalls and
opportunities associated with unconventional plays
* Solid experience and judgement on appropriate level of technical detail
required in the development of all technical work products
* Ability to balance effectively addressing short-term business needs under
tight time-frames while working on longer-term studies
* Past experience in refining and developing existing career development plans
for employees, with focus on raising technical bench strength of all employees
and conducting annual and mid-year performance reviews
* Must be a team player and have experience in building teams and coaching
and mentoring others
