GENERAL SUMMARY: The OPERATIONS MANAGER- EVS oversees the housekeeping and linen room service functions for the Medical Center. Studies new techniques for improving services; evaluates, selects and provides proper equipment and supplies for efficient and cost effective services; and ensures adherence to established standards of quality and all health and other regulatory agency standards. Coordinates EVS services with other departments to minimize patient, staff and visitor disruptions. The incumbent ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and for established policies and procedures. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

STAFF MANAGEMENT

*

Directs housekeeping activities of staff which includes sweeping floors, mopping, dusting, cleaning lights and fixtures, resupplying linens in order to ensure Medical Center is maintained in a clean and sanitary condition at all times.
*

Manages and oversees personnel in assigned units to ensure provision of effective, efficient and safe, age appropriate patient care in accordance with established standards.
*

Oversees the scheduling of assigned unit personnel to ensure adequate coverage with continued provision of quality patient services and business services.
*

Interviews, hires, orients, trains, and evaluates the performances of and, when necessary, disciplines and/or discharges department personnel. Provides direction, as necessary, to staff regarding sensitive and/or complex work, related problems, resolves complaints and responds to inquiries regarding department operations.



DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

*

Regularly inspects and evaluates physical condition of assigned areas of Medical Center to ensure duties are performed in accordance with all applicable governmental and third-party regulations and codes. Initiates corrective actions as necessary.
*

Plans, develops and recommends to Assistant Director annual unit staffing budget and assists in planning capital equipment and expense budgets.
*

Administers and monitors expenditures and implements corrective action to resolve budget variances.
*

Reviews department budget performance through regular audits to identify cost containment, revenue growth opportunities and improve quality.
*

Researches and contacts vendors when evaluating new equipment and supply purchases.
*

Performs cost analysis for product and vendor recommendations to Purchasing Department.
*

Ensures adequate levels of supplies are stocked in inventory and equipment is maintained in proper working condition.
*

Orders supplies and arranges for major equipment repairs as necessary.
*

Prepares a variety of reports reflecting housekeeping activities such as dollar amount of supplies used, status of equipment, personnel requirements, and productivity.
*

Creates and implements departmental productivity measures to use in monitoring effectiveness of current work processes.
*

Collaborates with Assistant Director in developing, revising and implementing departmental policies and procedures.
*

Monitors adherence to same and initiates corrective action as necessary.
*

Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related conferences, seminars and the like.



CUSTOMER SERVICE

*

Communicates regularly with Medical Center departments in order to coordinate provision of cleaning services and minimizes disturbances to patients, staff and visitors.
*

Participates in various Medical Center meetings, councils, committees and nursing meetings representing the Housekeeping function.
*

Investigates documents and resolves complaints or incidents concerning patients, visitors, physicians and subordinates, informing those of sensitive nature to Assistant Director.
*

Maintains Customer Service Goals and retention levels set by Medical Center.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

*

Bachelor s Degree in healthcare, management, or related field required.
*

Three or more years of healthcare experience required.
*

Three or more years of supervisory experience required.
*

Strong work ethic, intense drive, and initiative for quality and customer service required.
*

Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
*

Excellent listening and empathy skills required.
*

Excellent problem-solving skills both one-on-one and in group situations required.
*

Ability to utilize a participative approach to managing staff required.
*

Understanding of budgeting processes and awareness of profit and loss concepts required.
*

Excellent administrative and organizational skills and an ability to prioritize required.
*

Ability to function appropriate under stressful conditions required.
