Marketing & Digital Communications Specialist

Reporting to the Marketing & TDM Outreach Manager, the Digital Communications Specialist is an outstanding writer, who will develop and implement communication strategies for digital and social media channels, presentations, and customer responses and resolution. He or she is responsible for developing and executing marketing, online media, and department communications that support Stanford Parking & Transportation Services' objectives and priorities.

The Digital Communications Specialist has a solid command of marketing, promotion and outreach strategies and channels, customer communications, and brand management. He or she will create compelling and engaging material for digital, print, and other media under minimal supervision.

Marketing campaigns and collateral (45%)
He or she will be responsible for developing marketing campaigns and overseeing the execution of deliverables, including banners, posters, outreach messages, and other marketing collateral, on time and on budget.

Digital communications (45%)
The successful candidate will leverage knowledge of target markets and have primary responsibility for new media and communication channels, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and blog posts, to create program awareness and engagement. He or she will identify and utilize a variety of online technology platforms to engage customers in new interactive formats; increase marketing effectiveness through customer interaction; manage projects and assess effectiveness; and respond or coordinate responses to customer inquiries.

Branding, media and customer communications (10%)
The successful candidate will be responsible for branding and department communications, including presentations, online content, publications, and media relations. His or her responsibilities will include customer service, including events and customer responses.


Develop and research ideas for written publication/communication on topics of moderate complexity.

Consult with internal and external customers to understand the need and purpose of a project.

Compose written material for diverse audiences, across a variety of channels.

Manage production of own publications/communications and adhere to deadlines.

Oversee use of and post to the department's social media platforms.

Develop, compile and edit materials that support written communication (e.g., online content, publications, presentations, customer responses, talking points, and other related materials).

Establish and maintain extensive contacts with key sources (media, news services, community organizations and other targeted audiences) to identify story themes and newsworthy events to promote and disseminate information.

Maintain department style standards.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Proven success in writing for publication in print, web, and other platforms.

Excellent writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills with proven ability to present, write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner.

Ability to understand materials of moderate complexity and synthesize across multiple sources to produce materials for diverse audiences.

Ability to change voice and writing style to fit a particular audience and purpose.

Firm understanding of web technologies and applications, including social networking, social media tools, and current communication trends.

Excellent interpersonal skills and able to interact effectively with a diverse array of people, including senior leaders.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines.

Excellent time management skills.
Certifications and Licenses:

Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

Frequently stand/walk, sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, and use a telephone, writing by hand.

Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, and sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

Visual and auditory acuity, including color vision required.
