Our client is a high-growth, start-up medical device company that manufactures unique medical devices for minimally invasive surgery. With three instruments on the market and 200 employees, they have posted year-over-year quarterly revenue growth in excess of 70% and are now publicly traded. The marketing team is expanding and adding personnel in upstream and downstream functions in their office in San Francisco. They have an exciting work environment where their relatively small teams have unusually strong personal chemistry. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, the Marketing Manager / Senior Marketing Manager will be responsible for all upstream and downstream functions for a line of surgical instruments used in the Orthopedic and Spine markets. The marketing group only has seven people currently so this will be a very broadly defined assignment where you will "wear many hats," as is customary in a start-up. Duties include Voice of Customer, target product profiling, market segmentation, positioning, branding, messaging, sales force support and advocate development among Key Opinion Leaders. The product line has no direct competition so the strategic challenge is to develop and expand the market rather than shift share.
The initial focus for this high-profile role will be on preparing and executing product launch plans so we need someone with advanced analytical and strategic abilities along with extensive commercialization experience in the medical device industry. You will engage with customers at medical conferences and surgical case observations, and maintain a strong knowledge of competitive or alternative products and therapies. As the point person for customer-facing activities, you will lead the development of surgical videos, and coordinate peer-to-peer selling programs. You will also work closely with colleagues in Training and Marketing Communications to develop education material and marketing collateral. The Manager will also identify reimbursement and economic training needs of employees, physicians, and hospital personnel to drive product adoption. Overnight travel is estimated at 25%.
* 6+ years of work experience in the surgical instrument or medical device industry
* 3+ years of marketing experience working with products sold into the Hospital or Surgical Center segments
* Evidence of successful product launch experience
* Bachelor's degree or better; MBA preferred
