Description:
Intermediate/Advanced:
Candidates should have experience with the practical
selection and application of power plant materials. The
successful applicant shall possess an understanding of
the deformation and fracture of metals, as well as
microstructural, microanalytical, and fractographic
evaluations as applied to power plant components.
Elements of the position will also include: supporting
resolution of queries concerning selection, application,
and performance of materials (both metallic and
non-metallic) for new and existing power plant designs;
performing destructive evaluations to assess component
service performance; resolving continue use issues;
providing technical support for inspections, modeling,
testing, and materials development/implementation
efforts; and reviewing design documents and
vendor/shipyard submittals for materials issues.
Requirements:
Intermediate:
BS degree in Materials Science or Metallurgical
Engineering from an accredited college or university and
a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in Materials Science or Metallurgical
Engineering from an accredited college or university
Advanced:
BS degree in Materials Science or Metallurgical
Engineering from an accredited college or university and
a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in Materials Science or Metallurgical
Engineering from an accredited college or university and
a minimum of two years of relevant experience
In addition:
Experience with carbon and alloy steels, stainless
steels, nickel-based alloys, and non-metallic materials
(e.g., polymers)
Effective oral and written communication skills, self
motivated, and willing to work with a wide range of
professional disciplines, including material scientists,
mechanical engineers, statisticians, and design
engineers.
