Job Description

The Rockefeller University, a leading biomedical research institute, seeks a Mechanic III to join Plant Operations. Under the supervision of the Watch Engineer, will repair air conditioning, heating, plumbing, and electrical systems, check all running equipment, read and make log entries on pressures, flows, and temperatures, collect water samples, add chemicals to towers and chilled water systems, respond to all alarms received by the Power House (i.e. fire, smoke, leaks, trouble calls, etc.), fire high pressure boilers, blow down boilers, water columns, and gauge glasses, replace and clean burners, check condition of all fires (impingement, smoke, etc.), add chemical compounds, blow boiler tubes, and assist welder in burning and welding. Will clean and mop floors, wipe down equipment, and do necessary painting (color coding, etc.) as necessary.

High School diploma or equivalent Trade School degree required. Must have a minimum of three years of working experience in a mechanical environment and working knowledge of air conditioning, heating, plumbing, and electrical systems. Must be willing to obtain #6 oil burner permit within three months of employment. Must be flexible to working shifts and on weekends.Must be able to move, push, pull, or lift equipment, materials, and tools weighing more than 50 lbs., climb extension ladders, work overhead, and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and move within confined areas including crawl and attic spaces. Must be able to sustain considerable physical effort at frequent intervals, work both inside and outside, and operate power tools and equipment. Will be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
