Duties & Responsibilities

Working under limited supervision, the mechanical engineer is responsible for concept development, detailed design and development, requirements definition, reading and interpreting engineering drawings, mechanical & electro-mechanical systems integration, and qualification/acceptance verification of complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems and subsystems. This position may also include performing project level tasks, supporting customer meetings and discussions, supporting manufacturing, definition and planning of the design/development effort, certification, coordination, integration, and verification at all project levels. Knowledge of standard mechanical engineering practices including proper material choices and design for manufacturability. Excellent written and oral communication skills are also required.

Qualifications:
Qualifications

Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent is required. A Masters degree is preferred but not required. Mid-to-senior level mechanical engineering experience is required. Direct experience with Pro E, human space flight space cargo/payloads, vacuum effects and materials, Harmonic drives, inertial loads, thermal protection systems, drivetrains and gear sets are highly desirable. Experience with mechanical engineering specifications, analysis tools, integration of payload/cargo/thermal protection systems subsystems, and requirement trades are required. Exceptional analytical, mechanical, and system skills are highly desirable.
