The Medical Assistant supports the physician and nursing staff in the delivery of health care by performing a variety of medically related tasks. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, and preparing patients for examination. Greets patients and manages patient care flow. Prepares patients for provider by reviewing current medications and record in medical record. Sets up exam room/procedure rooms appropriately based on patient visit needs. Assists provider in examination/procedure rooms as needed. Assists in follow-up scheduling needs. Answers patient calls in timely fashion. Prepares charts as needed. Ability to understand and assist two or more providers with clinical care. Handles all designated clinical care telephone interactions with provider input. Communicates all significant clinical findings to MD. Serves as an advocate for patient and utilizes appropriate resources.



A medical assistant diploma/certificate from a secondary, post secondary, or adult education program in a public school authorized by the Dept. of Education, in a community college program provided for in the Education Code, or a post-secondary institution accredited or approved by the Bureau of Post-secondary and Vocational Education in the Dept. of Consumer Affairs

Knowledge of normal and abnormal symptomatology and life threatening medical problems

Current and valid CPR certification with ability to administer CPR

Ability to skillfully administer oral, IM and subcutaneous medications

Ability to perform venipuncture (must have performed more than 100x) with skill and proof of minimum training which includes 10 hours of training in venipuncture and skin puncture for the purpose of withdrawing blood, adhering to all OSHA PPE safety requirements

Ability to obtain accurate vital signs and drug refills

Ability to assist in medical emergencies and office procedures

Ability to use computerized patient care systems

Knowledge of medical terminology

Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, ancillary departments, physicians and co-workers in a courteous and compassionate manner

Verbal skills to effectively convey sensitive information in a courteous manner in person or on the telephone

Skill to accurately perform a 12-lead EKG

Ability to order medical and clinical supplies and maintain adequate inventory

Ability to schedule patient appointments and encounter patients

Knowledge and ability to set up and assist physician with any procedures such as, but not limited to audiometry, spirometry, O2 saturation levels, skin tag and mole removals, ear lavage, colposcopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies

Ability to perform accurate quality control and patient sample testing for waived tests

Knowledge of all safety requirements when handling bio hazardous specimens or contaminated instruments

Knowledge of MSDS and emergency treatments
