SERVICE AREA OVERVIEW
We pride ourselves on the diversity of our staff in meeting the diverse needs of our patients. Northside Hospital s Interpretation Services Department provides language interpretation and translation services to patients and their families. The department serves ~70 different languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Vietnamese, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese.
The Foreign Language Medical Interpreter will be responsible for providing consecutive and/or simultaneous language interpretation for limited English proficient (LEP) patients and families whose primary language is not English, as it relates to medical care.
Provides sight-translation of relevant materials to enhance patients and families comprehension of medical procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care within the interpretation encounter.
Is also responsible for the written translation of hospital documents such as medical record forms and patient education materials from English into target language as assigned by supervisor.
Due to specialty knowledge of medical terminology, the selected language Interpreter candidate MUST have experience in Medical and preferably Hospital interpretation and a certificate of training a BRIDGING THE GAP Certificate or equivalent medical interpreter training course certificate is a strong preference.
Demonstrated proficiency in English and SpanishTarget language.
Demonstrated superior knowledge of medical vocabulary in both languages.
Demonstrated superior short-term, verbatim memory skills.
Demonstrated understanding of and adherence to ethical standards for medical interpreters.
Two (2) years experience in medical setting, customer service, advocacy or related field.
Training and/or certification in language interpretation.
Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
High School diploma.
