The Medical Scribe will assist Orthopaedic Surgery Physicians as assigned with various administrative aspects of patient care in the Orthopaedic Clinics in both Westwood and Santa Monica. These include documentation of history and physical findings in the electronic Care Connect medical record, follow-up of laboratory and x-ray results, paging consults, and assisting in patient admission, transfers or discharges. Will work in close association with residents and attending physicians and will be part of the Orthopaedic Surgery team. Clinical Information Assistant will also be required to aid in \\"chart auditing\\" both in real-time and retrospectively, which includes reviewing physicians' charts and procedure notes to ensure completeness, sending incomplete charts back to physicians and maintaining/updating a work queue log utilized by our coders. Work hours are day shift M-F only, but vary from 7AM-7PM as assigned. Prior clinical experience is very helpful. Work assignments will be performed under general direction of Clinic Manager and the faculty member assigned. Incumbent will assist physicians in electronic charting utilizing EPIC by creating an accurate, concise, and complete patient history based on patient-physician interactions, documenting a physical exam based on a physician's dictation, adding progress or procedures notes. Incumbent will assist physicians in managing patient flow by checking on results of diagnostic studies, arranging dispositions, etc. Incumbent will check charts for completeness to assure appropriate and timely physician billing including history, physical exam, review of systems, labs, radiology studies, ECGs, impression/assessment/diagnosis, discharge plan with disposition, and signatures. Incumbent will be required to navigate computer systems such as Care Connect to look up patients' previous medical records, prior labs results, etc. They will assist in real-time and retrospective chart auditing which includes assessing chart for completeness and sending incomplete charts back to the appropriate physician(s). Incumbent will assist management in training of new Clinical Information Assistants as needed. Incumbent will be expected to adhere to all UCLA CICARE and Patient Experience Practices as defined in ourMy Comtment to Care. They will be expected to observe and practice all the Service Standards listed in the \\"World Class Practices\\". They will be expected to practice CICARE when interacting with patients, their families, visitors, or internal customers. This includes practicing CICARE phone etiquette during all phone interactions * Always exercise courtesy whenever patients, family members, visitors and co-workers are present. This is a schedule as needed and back-up coverage per diem position.


Required: Prior Scribe Experience. Ability to perform under the pressure, frequent interruptions and distractions. Ability to handle confidential material while protecting its strict confidentiality. Ability to proofread very detailed materials and monitor work accurately. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively and diplomatically interact with others. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility. Knowledge and skill in using various computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email, and basic database software. Ability to organize and track multiple records and requests and follow through in a timely manner. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, faculty, residents, students, University representatives, patients and the public. Detailed knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to distinguish different exams and medical diagnoses. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Preferred: Knowledge of EandM codes and the level of documentation necessary for each billing level. Strongly Preferred: Bachelor's degree or expected completion date of Bachelor's degree in 2016.
