Summary: (Summarize primary purpose of job function)
Performs a variety of chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic tests, procedures and related duties. Must exercise independent judgment to perform and report findings proficiently for clinical laboratory tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Actively participates in compliance of accreditation and regulatory standards (JCAHO, CAP, CLIA 88, GDHR) which relate to all areas of the laboratory. Follows established standards and practices. Works flexible hours to include weekends and holidays. Reports To: Laboratory Manager
Titles Supervised: MLT; Phlebotomist

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Performs proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.
2. Uses quality control samples to verify accuracy and precision of test results and adheres to the laboratory's procedures and policies.
3. Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen collection, labeling, handling, transport and processing.
4. Performs instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance as required or indicated.
5. Performs the test process and is capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problems or immediately notifies the Laboratory Manager, Medical Director, or designee for assistance.
6. Reports and maintains laboratory results by written procedure and policy guidelines.
7. Effectively operates all computer systems and functions associated with them to include order entry, resulting, error correction and applicable billing and auditing processes.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education Bachelor of Science Degree with Medical Technologist (MT) classification
Or Associate of Science Degree with MT classification.
Experience Completion of Laboratory Clinical Rotation
Licensure MT classification by the State of Georgia Laboratory License Section of the Department of Human Resources (GDHR):

* MT (ASCP) - American Society of Clinical Pathologists
* MT (AMT) - American Society of Medical Technologists
* CLT (HHS) - U. S. Department of Health and Human Services
* CLS (NCA) - National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel
* MT (AAB) - American Association of Bioanalysts (formerly called International Society for Clinical Laboratory Technology or ISLT).
* Current CPR certification
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Skills required for:
* Proper specimen collection, including patient preparation, labeling, handling, transport and storage.
* Implementing all standard laboratory practices.
* Performing each test method and proper instrument use.
* Performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration procedures.
* Implementing the quality control policies and procedures.
