Job Description

Unix Systems Administrator and Tools Engineer for eBay's search environment
Manage capacity, develop process, design systems architecture and perform technology refreshes
Support primarily C++ developers and numerous scripting languages (Unix shell, PERL, Python)
Individual is required to perform on-call duty on a rotational basis
Assist in troubleshooting and performance tuning
Automation of repeatable work
Act as a key member (support/consultant/lead) on various site projects
Perform everyday tasks such as configuring systems, installing software, providing guidance in technical meetings, defining standards, assisting with research and design for architectural issues, assisting/providing status updates, attending project meetings and implementation of new search features
Some minimal travel may be requiredMinimum five years Unix Systems Administration and Tools Engineer experience
RedHat/CentOS/Ubuntu and Solaris deployment automation and package management
Proficiency with common Unix System administration tools
Proven troubleshooting skills and ability to understand complex relationships between components of a multi-tiered and distributed web site
End-user and configuration experience with Network Management and Enterprise Monitoring tools, especially within a network operations center environment
Basic knowledge of common applications and technologies in Internet computing (web servers, proxies, load balancers, etc)
Working expertise with one or more scripting language (Perl, Unix shell, Python)
Ability to provide reliable technical support and guidance on routine site issues in a high velocity and dynamic environment
Exhibit procedural and architectural documentation skills
Knowledge of basic protocols such as HTTP(S), TCP/IP, UDP, SNMP, SMTP, DNS, NTP, NFS, LDAP
Knowledge of storage concepts such as RAID levels, ISCSI, SAS and SATA.
Knowledge of host-based and network security tools
Implemented monitoring systems such as Ganglia, Nagios, Sitescope, Munin or similar tools.
Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to peers, customers and management
