Job Description

Metallurgical Engineer - Failure Analysis

CGI Federal (Formerly Stanley Associates) is looking for a Metallurgical Engineer - Failure Analysis to work in our Huntsville, AL location. The Failure Analysis Engineer will perform root cause metallurgical failure analysis of rotorcraft components in support of the Army's Aviation Quality Deficiency Reporting system.     

Specific Duties:

Operate a Scanning Electron Microscope
Participate in tear-down analysis, identify components that are likely involved in the failure, and specify the testing required to reveal the root cause
Perform failure analysis of metallic components
Coordination of reporting activity between various engineering organizations

Required
Bachelors Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 8 years directly related work experience required. Masters Degree or PD D and 6 years of direct related experience can be accepted.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to successfully complete the Stanley Background Investigation to include; 50 State Criminal, Education and Employment; Additionally, your ability to successfully complete a Credit and/or Driving Records Checks may be conducted if required by the contract for continued employment.
Possession of an INTERIM SECRET security clearance is required to begin employment; Ability to maintain a SECRET security clearance is required for continued employment; US Citizenship is required.
Knowledge and experience of complex mechanical subsystems such as transmissions
Knowledge and experience with materials regarding processing, inspection, and testing
Knowledge and experience with destructive testing and non-destructive testing methods
Ability to perform analyses involving SEM/EDS, metallography, optical microscopy, hardness testing, micro-hardness testing, optical emission spectroscopy, and conductivity testing     
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, etc. and recommend testing to prove/disprove a component's conformance to required specifications
Ability to track multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
Education and/or background in metallurgical/materials engineering
Ability to effectively work with a team of engineers and technicians
Ability to effectively and accurately communicate (both verbal and written) results of failure analysis, clearly identify a root cause(s), and make recommendations for corrective action(s)
Aviation experience REQUIRED

Preferred:
Recent experience with the engineering evaluation of stress corrosion, fretting corrosion, and fatigue failures of metallic components
Recent experience in the operation of a SEM
Recent experience in the writing of failure analysis reports
Recent experience with rotorcraft and/or aerospace components
