MOBILE SURVEILLANCE NURSE, EMPLOYEE AND CORPORATE HEALTH SERVICES, PART-TIME

The Employee and Corporate Health Services (ECHS) Surveillance Team assistant coordinator functions as a member of the ECHS team. The assistant coordinator is responsible for mobile TB screening, scheduling of fit testing and influenza vaccine and clinic coverage. The staff nurse reports to the Coordinator MST and ECHS Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLINICAL

*

Serves as a member of the ECHS team and foster the clinical practice team approach.
*

Serves as a TB resource and consultant to ECHS staff and Medical Center personnel in assessing patient status and planning nursing care.
*

Responsible for TB screening throughout the Medical Center which includes:

*

PPD placement done on select units annually.
*

Reading of results 48-72 later.
*

Follow-up letter to personal MD regarding TB prophylaxis.
*

Annual follow-up on those with documented positive PPD.
*

Documentation and record keeping for employees/unit leadership.
*

Employee education.

*

Collaborates with other members of the health care team for the purpose of assessing and evaluating the coordination of team functions. Consults with ECHS Infection Surveillance and Control coordinator.
*

Initiates inter and intra-disciplinary patient care conferences.
*

Demonstrates the ability to utilize Medical Center resources and is able to provide information on other health care agencies for referral.
*

Adjusts all clinical functions to accommodate for Adolescent and Adult and Geriatric patients.

ADMINISTRATIVE

*

Assists in formulating and initiating action toward attaining ECHS surveillance team objectives as well as unit policies, procedures and nursing care objectives.
*

Guides in establishing standards of TB surveillance.
*

Participates in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the surveillance; suggests methods of program improvement/expansion.
*

Demonstrates leadership skills.
*

Interprets Medical Center policies and procedures.

EDUCATIONAL

*

Demonstrates the ability to direct learning experiences of team, staff and students.
*

Develops, conducts and evaluates inservices utilizing internal and external educational resources.
*

Identifies for the team and unit issues in TB and makes recommendations for implementation as well as education.

RESEARCH

*

Assists with the team development and implementation of TB surveillance and related studies.
*

Introduces concepts from health care research for application in the surveillance program.
*

Serves as a nursing resource for interdisciplinary research.
*

Identifies investigational problems and hypotheses in the Medical Center.



QUALIFICATIONS:

*

A professional nurse with a minimum of a BSN from an approved school of nursing.
*

Current licensure to practice in the State of Illinois.
*

Experience in clinical nursing practice and employee health services and/or occupational health nursing.
