Job Description

Flint Hills Resources is an independent refining and chemicals company. The company has expanded its operations through capital projects and acquisitions worth more than $5.3 billion since 2002. Its refineries and ethanol plants produce fuels that power much of Texas, the Midwest and the Alaska interior. Its petrochemicals are used to manufacture goods such as plastics, building products and packaging materials. Its asphalt is used in communities across the Midwest and Alaska. The base oils it markets are the principle raw material used to produce premium motor oil, commercial lubricants and sealants and coatings. Flint Hills Resources employs about 3,600 people who are focused on creating value for customers and society. This workforce includes plant operators, accountants, marketers, environmental, health and safety professionals and engineers, among other career types, who work in a variety of settings: corporate headquarters, terminals, refineries, ethanol plants, chemical plants or sales offices. The company owns refineries and chemical plants in Alaska, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Texas, and ethanol plants in Iowa. In addition, the company owns and operates fuel and/or asphalt terminals in Alaska, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin. Flint Hills owns an interest in base oils plant in Louisiana, and a biodiesel feedstock development company in California. In addition to sales offices in North America, the company has a sales presence in Switzerland, Hong Kong and Belgium to serve global customers. Responsibilities Accountable for achieving compliance excellence. Provide modeling expertise for refinery planning LP models (PIMS) and scheduling (ORION) model that support economic planning decisions and dependable scheduling projections. Provide reporting tools that monitor and improve accuracy of planning and scheduling models. (The Model Integrity Process) Manage and improve economics and planning information systems. (i.e. Assay Library, EandP Website, MBM Training, etc.) Coordinate the data gathering and follow-up for the Solomon Associates Fuels Benchmarking Study for even numbered years. Manage the annual business planning process [annual oil flow plan]. Expectations Continuously improve compliance understanding and application. Own and drive continuous improvement in the model integrity process to focus the organization on improvement opportunities. Manage all systems upgrades, model changes and improvements to most reasonably reflect actual / proposed (ventures) operating conditions and actual constraints in planning (LP) and scheduling (ORION) models. Provide model support for all planning (LP) and scheduling (ORION) model users. Continuously improve the reliability, accuracy and ease of use of all planning (LP) and scheduling (ORION) models as well as model integrity reporting and model reporting tools (Excel Add-Ins for PIMS and ORION). Manage the business relationship with Aspen Technology to ensure the best technology implementation and continuous improvement for all planning and scheduling tools. Manage Haverly software and the official crude library for Corpus Christi and all tools required to utilize crude assay data in other models or systems. Maintain and continuously improve the economics and planning website to meet department and customer demands. Effect the most efficient use of the planning and scheduling tool set to generate the annual business plan and the integration of results with customer systems. Organize and support the data gathering process, reconcile all second level data checks and resolve all follow-up questions within Solomon Associate's prescribed submission deadlines for the Corpus Christi facility. Work Experience and Skills Required Effective communication, both verbal and written Solid understanding of refinery process units and oil flow Must have excellent critical thinking skills - thought processes and strategies for solving problems are based on sound logic, economics, and consideration of alternatives. Must have 5+ yrs experience of refinery related work.
