Job Description:

The Washington Trust Company is seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to add to our team of dedicated underwriting professionals. The Underwriter works with a specific group of Loan Officers and becomes a valuable team member to ensure that all residential mortgages are underwritten with the highest standards of compliance to all regulations and investor requirements.

This position is located in Warwick, RI.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Underwrite, evaluate, and approve/process mortgage loans, either brokered or funded by the Bank within defined limits of authority as determined by Supervisor. Loan processing involves verifying all loan information including income analysis, collateral, credit, etc.

* Follow up on required appraisals and title searches, and issue commitment letters and/or notices of incompleteness in accordance with compliance requirements.

* Partner with Loan Officers, assisting them in qualifying loans.

* Ensure Washington Trust and Washington Trust Mortgage Company LLC loan policies are followed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have at least seven years of multiple lender loan underwriting and processing experience and should have current knowledge of loan processing and automated underwriting systems (Encompass a plus).
Underwriting certification strongly preferred
Experience in use of a Loan Origination System
Experience with Freddie Mac Loan Prospector and Fannie Mae Desktop Originator
Experience with FHA and VA loans
Previous experience with secondary market requirements
Additional qualifications include:
Proficient mathematical skills, with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to perform complex income analysis

Strong PC skills; Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills Possess good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
Ability to work independently with a sense of urgency
Strong attention to detail
Ability to perform under pressure in a team environment
High school diploma or GED. BS/BA degree in a business program preferred
