Description:
Reactor Plant Contractors' Office (RPCO) Field Engineer
Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation (BMPC) operates
several Laboratory Sites for the Department of Energy.
Our team of over 7,000 people design the world's most
technologically advanced reactor plants and systems. We
support the U.S. Navy Fleet of nuclear powered ships.
RPCO field engineers are on-site representatives of the
Naval Reactors Program laboratories and component supply
organizations. RPCO engineers operate in a fast paced,
dynamic environment and independently exercise authority
to ensure that work is conducted in a safe manner. The
individual will provide engineering support and
independent oversight of work associated with
installation, testing, and modification of reactor plant
systems, components, and safety systems. RPCO engineers
perform audits and surveillance of nuclear work and
operations and provide feedback to on-site management.
This position involves direct interaction with Navy
personnel, shipyard engineering, site organizations, and
local government representatives.
Prospective RPCO candidates must complete a training
program at RPCO-NRF on fuel handling operations
(expected to take approximately 8 months) to achieve
qualification as a Joint Refueling Group (JRG) member.
This individual will represent the Prime Contractors as
the RPCO member of the JRG. As a member of the RPCO at
NRF, the individual will be expected to observe
operations at a reactor core examination facility,
review work and test procedures for accuracy, and
identify process improvements that will minimize Program
costs or improve safety. The individual will also
provide independent oversight of all fuel movement and
operation of fuel handling equipment. The individual
will ensure compliance with procedures and safe conduct
of fuel handling.
This position is an excellent opportunity to obtain
hands-on experience with different naval fuel systems
and with equipment used to handle and prepare fuel
including ultimate dry storage of the fuel. This is a 3
to 5 year assignment at RPCO-NRF requiring domestic
relocation to the Idaho Falls area. This position
qualifies for the RPCO incentive payment program in
addition to the normal pay structure. This position is
available immediately to all qualified BMPC personnel.
