The Multimedia Officer (MMO) will oversee multimedia content creation activities for the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC), including the JCCC s Information Office, website and social channels. Under the supervision of the JCCC Communications Director and JCCC Media Relations Manager (MRM), the MMO will conceptualize, shoot and edit compelling multimedia (specifically short-form video/audio, basic animations, and still imagery) that engages the target audience and achieves approved JCCC messaging objectives. The position will also, under guidance of superiors, work to develop and execute a clearly defined multimedia content plan to increase online awareness of JCCC's accomplishments, discoveries and brand.
The MMO is responsible for maintaining a consistent approach to the creation and delivery of content, including overseeing a schedule of content/projects in play for the JCCC and their expected work plans and deadlines. On an as-needed basis and under the direction of the JCCC Communications Director, the MMO will help execute strategic initiatives with key UCLA partners, including the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation (JCCF), the media and marketing teams at UCLA Health, and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM).
In addition to their primary video production responsibilities, the MMO will continually assess and optimize the production and management processes using a variety of pre-determined metrics and engagement. The MMO will, in collaboration with JCCC staff and related UCLA media personnel, conduct regular ongoing research and report on the effectiveness of multimedia projects, per benchmarks set by superiors. The position will also assist the JCCC Communications Director on internal communications initiatives as needed and provide support for media presentations to JCCC leadership.
Undergraduate degree in Film/TV/Digital Production, or at least three years relevant experience in video production and post production. Produce, shoot, and edit video content for multi-platform use and distribution including online and social media channels. Ability to conceptualize narratives that work effectively across multiple platforms simultaneously (including mobile, tablet and larger screens).
Work proactively and under guidance of superiors to conceptualize creative narratives about science but with a human voice, and a willingness to play and experiment. Produce novel and inventive animations and visuals on a limited budget and within tight timeframes. Keen eye for creating compelling still imagery for web/social media. Knowledge of Photoshop, Adobe Premiere and After Effects (or equivalent).
Strong aptitude to troubleshoot technical issues. Assist in prepping scripts for voiceover reads (add tags, codes, send to talent). Directing voiceovers based on MRM expectations and needs. Ensure smooth file management and workflow in both video and audio. Ability to interface with broadcast studio teams for live feed interviews and recording. Aptitude and passion for new media, particularly collaborating with superiors and staff to create compelling narrative strategies that utilize current and emerging online technologies and social channels. Expertise in managing multimedia content for top social channels including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Ensure that multimedia social content is in support of and consistent with overall messaging strategies of the JCCC brand and culture. Conceptualize and produce effective memes for social channels while building a creative assets library for daily content.
Aptitude for conceptualizing strategies to improve social community size and engagement via multimedia content. Communicate with team on a daily basis to gauge production processes and assess performance.
Ability to maintain, update and review website multimedia content in a timely manner. Proficiency with custom Content Management Systems (CMS). Creative asset procurement. Knowledge of search engine optimization for multimedia.
Basic understanding of website navigational structures and effective GUI for multimedia. Microsoft Windows and Mac OS
Working knowledge of HTML5 and CSS. Measure and optimize content based on SEO and analytics. Knowledge of industry standard analytic technologies and tools including Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, etc. Strong oral and presentation skills.
Strong organizational skills to professionally manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to effectively communicate with internal staff and external partners. Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with a diverse group. Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow through on production assignments with minimal direction. Proven ability to meet deadlines.
