JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Description and Responsibilities
New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer reporting to the Diode-Pumped Solid-State-Laser Business Unit. The successful candidate will be involved in developing new solid-state-laser products in a collaborative environment. They would be a full participant in an experienced product-development team that includes optical, mechanical, electrical, software, service, quality, and reliability engineers. The NPI engineer interfaces between the development team and the manufacturing team to coordinate the release of a new product. They would also participate in sustaining engineering to support mature product lines.
The NPI engineer develops and implements production processes, manufacturing material flow, build methods, and other critical product documentation; estimates manufacturing costs, determines cycle times, and makes recommendations for manufacturing tooling; is responsible for releasing new parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies; constructs and helps maintain the product BOM. This is challenging and technical position. The appointment would be at the engineer or senior engineer level, commensurate with experience.
Coherent s Diode-Pumped Business Unit develops, manufactures, and supports industry-leading laser products used in precise scientific instrumentation and high-tech manufacturing processes.
Education and Work Experience
BS or MS degree in physics, engineering, or a related scientific discipline
Experience in product production planning
A good working knowledge of manufacturing methods, efficient operational processes, and strategies for product cost reduction
Experience in optics, laser systems, fiber lasers, lean-production strategies, Six-Sigma methodology, project-management methodology, data analysis, technical writing, and making technical presentations are all beneficial
