As a university-based program, the UCSD Eating Disorders Program provides state-of-the-art treatments based on research and new understandings of eating disorders. Our adult program follows the evidence-based approach of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and our adolescent program utilizes a Family Based Treatment approach (FBT; also known as the "Maudsley" Model) in addition to DBT. Our dynamic team of researchers and clinicians is very dedicated to staying at the forefront of eating disorder treatment.

Under general supervision of the Clinical Director of UCSD Eating Disorders Program, and in consultation with the Medical Director of the Adult Eating Disorders Program, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will serve as a designated expert for assessing and interpreting complicated psychiatric cases and providing specialized mental health care services in an eating disorders partial hospital program, and intensive outpatient program. Incumbent will treat patients ages 8 - 65 years old. Evaluate and manage psychiatric disorders. Conduct in-depth interviews with patients with a range of disorder symptoms, construct comprehensive medical histories, perform initial and periodic physical examinations. Coordinate appropriate follow-up care, referrals, and case management for patients including complex cases.

Perform crisis intervention and medication management. Develop and implement long and short range treatment plans. Consult and coordinate care with other medical and psychologist staff, and outside agencies. Provide crisis counseling to patients and families regarding any aspect of diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders. Participate and provide continuing education for staff and develop relevant programs regarding the diagnosis and management of the patients with psychiatric disorders, co morbid eating disorders. Utilize critical thinking skills to individualize patient care in order to manage illness, promote well-being, and foster rehabilitative and preventive lifestyle choices.

The incumbent will be responsible for identifying and solving complex problems, collaborating with other UCSD and community health care providers, preparing cases for the Chief and consulting physicians, and training staff to meet clinical standard of practice. Prepare and maintain files in anticipation of internal, sponsor, or FDA audits. The incumbent will oversee regulatory compliance and quality assurance for psychiatric cases and will serve as primary resource for clinic staff. Plan and present services to staff and/or community groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have State of California Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner License and Current Certificate, State of California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number and DEA number, Board Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

Current BLS or ACLS Certification with agreement to attain BART certification within 6 months of hire.
*

Knowledge of community agencies most frequently used in mental health care.
*

Advanced knowledge and experience in managing psychiatric medications.
*

Proven knowledge of psychiatric principles, practices, and process gained through extended clinical study and experience. Knowledge of psychiatric models of care with emphasis on interdisciplinary team approach.
*

Skill in management of health-illness needs in primary health care. Knowledge and skill in assessment and treatment of common acute illnesses and injuries.
*

Demonstrated abilities and experience in providing crisis counseling to patients and families regarding any aspect of diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders.
*

Proven experience in providing education to the patient and family related to the ongoing primary care of the patient such as health maintenance, prevention, anticipatory guidance, and management of psychiatric disorders.
*

Extensive experience in providing continuing education for staff and develop relevant programs regarding the diagnosis and management of the patients with psychiatric disorders.
