Job Specific Responsibilities, (e.g. clerical, patient care, food service, supervisory, etc.) Applies knowledge and skills of patient assessment in developing and carrying out treatment plans. Collaborates with Pediatric Emergency Physicians and nurses regarding the care of complex patients. Prepares and knows the specific uses of all equipment and supplies used for emergency procedures such as suturing, splinting, incision & drainage. Identifies emergency situations and uses sound judgment in instituting established procedures to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner. Reviews all laboratory and radiology test results relating to assigned patients with collaboration with physician as necessary. Demonstrates proper technique when performing suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, and suture removal. Obtains health data base that includes personal, family and psychosocial history, Performs and records physical examinations, Orders appropriate screening and diagnostic tests, Diagnoses actual or potential problems, Provides health maintenance counseling, patient education, emotional support and guidance, Prescribes treatment plan and evaluates outcomes, modifying plan as needed, Discusses plan as necessary with supervising or covering MD, Refers to other health care professionals as appropriate, Documents assessment, diagnosis, treatment and outcome evaluation and Participates in professional meetings, seminars and other continuing education to keep abreast of professional practice, enhance growth and meet professional standards. Performs invasive procedures under specific written protocols which specify the level of supervision the service requires, direct (physician in the room), personal (physician in the building), or general (physician available by telephone). Adheres to the NSPG Guidelines for the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

SKILLS: (Specific learned activity gained through training, e.g., typing, presentation skills, computer skills, e.g. Excel, CPR,ACLS)

Required: Intense attention, concentration, good visual, verbal, hearing skills, and attention to detail. Effectively interacts with a wide range of personality types and ages is necessary. Effectively interacts with diverse cultural backgrounds . Proficiency in using computers and ability to quickly gain competency in various software applications, including specific hospital applications. Obtained/Maintain current BLS/PALS and ACLS certifications within six months of hire.



Required: None

Preferred:3 years of experience to include inpatient / outpatient care


Required: NP must be a graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a Masters Degree.



Required: Must have a current valid license authorizing practice in the expanded role, and a current valid registration to issue written or oral prescriptions or medication orders for controlled substances from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
