JOB DESCRIPTIONOur Software Engineering Talent Community works across the software, product, or service delivery cycle to analyze, design, build, implement and/or maintain multiple system components or applications for Avanade's clients and internal stakeholders.
The Solution Development team designs, tests and deploys solutions and solution components (web services, applications, enterprise portals, etc.) of client projects. Involved at various stages throughout the project lifecycle, the Solution Developer works closely with technical leadership and the functional team to understand the functional requirements of the project. As a manager, an additional responsibility includes managing the client relationship, change requirements, proposal development and support of marketing and PR initiatives.
About the role
As a Manager, Solution Development, you will be responsible for designing, deploying and testing solution components of large size and complexity across a series of projects or programs. You will develop and test mission-critical enterprise solutions including web services, enterprise portals and mobile applications.
The Manager has key project or program leadership responsibilities, and serves as a career manager to other Solution Developers. The Group Manager also assists with customer relationships, change requirements, proposal development and some marketing and PR initiatives.
In summary, you will:
Manage and review the work of your team(s) across all phases (Plan, Analyze, Design, Build and Test) of one or more projects
Direct efforts to define technical, operational and user requirements
Design conceptual architecture and technical solutions
Lead and review efforts to develop and implement client-approved solutions
Take responsibility for project management of various initiatives, including work estimation, planning, stakeholder management, and group management
Ensure project quality meets standards by identifying KPIs and testing plan
Own the partnership with cross-functional technology and design teams to ensure consistent, beneficial client interaction and solution delivery
Ensure offshore resources are utilized and leveraged appropriately
Take an active role in sales activities and planning as required
In addition, you will set objectives and lead project or work delivery that has a direct effect on business results within a functional or operational area. You will provide expert advice, guidance and recommendations to senior managers and consultants to resolve business issues, and you will be responsible for delivering assigned outcomes with high business impact.
You will be accountable for day-to-day outputs and quality performance, dealing with actions that could cause delays, inefficiencies or unnecessary expense and impact the efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
You will be expected to demonstrate a range of technical skills and abilities as well as personal qualities and experience that are essential for the job.
You should have advanced skills in analyzing, designing, developing, implementing and maintaining application code in a variety of contexts, and in developing client-based and/or web-based software solutions.
You will have proven experience of application development, complex code development, application testing, and component design, as well as any specific technologies requested by your hiring manager. We also look for experience in leading software development-focused projects.
Your non-technical skills and experience should include consulting to external clients on complex projects, including in leadership roles. You should be able to show evidence of
working with global teams on projects and with offshore teams to facilitate project work. Your experience will include making use of service brokering in project work.
You will need excellent communication skills; confident at presenting complex information to technical and non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in writing. You must be proficient in English.
A strong commercial awareness and financial intelligence (e.g., P&Ls, how decisions impact cost, profit, etc.) are essential, as well as experience of leading mid-large teams (5-10+). Group Managers must be able to show at least four years of increasingly complex or diverse experience, and up to two years' people management.
With deep technical skills you will be capable of being a subject matter expert in at least one Microsoft technology or business domain.
You will be educated to degree level, with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS or a related field. Required certifications will be determined by the hiring manager in partnership with Market Unit/Talent Community.
You will be comfortable making major decisions which impact your functional area of responsibility and acting within broad goals and direction. This means that day-to-day you will:
Act as supervisor and small-team leader, providing coaching and career guidance
Determine critical success factors for solutions, and balance customer expectations within project constraints to ensure success
Be a key customer advocate, interfacing with all levels across the customer organization, from end users to executive management
Provide insight to strategic technology planning, business case development, business process improvement and portfolio transformation.
