Job Description

Position Summary: Under direction of the Network Engineering Supervisor, the Network Engineer I plans, designs, installs and maintains integrated Hotel Systems to support video and / or data operations and maintain 99.9% uptime.

Primary Responsibilities/Tasks - Essential Functions
* Conducts equipment evaluations, equipment selection, pilot testing and network designs to insure reliability and scaled expansion of the network. Prepare engineering cost analysis to optimize the return on investment.
* Coordinates with other departments to ensure the network is available and configured to exceed market demands. This includes the support of software upgrades and configuration changes and assisting technicians, SOC, and NOC in troubleshooting outages and resolving escalations as appropriate.
* Develops, executes and maintains detailed network designs and architectural plans for network applications. Designs may include video servers, RF, or Internet topologies.
* Configures and maintains devices including servers, routers, switches, wireless access points, and CMTS.
* Establishes network performance measurements and goals.

Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
* Typically requires BS/BA or Associates degree in related discipline. Certification may be required in some areas.
* Generally 0-2 years of experience in related field OR MS/MA/MBA and generally 0-1 year of experience in related field

Additional Requirements
* Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Networking, Computer Engineering, or EE (Electronic Engineering), or a combination of related technical training and experience
* Minimum 1 year experience in computer administration and computer network operations
* Minimum 1 year TCP/IP networking experience or equivalent education/knowledge
* Experience with Perl, PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, HTML
* Strong Linux knowledge
* Considerable knowledge of communications hardware and software techniques, typically acquired through formal and informal training in computer science or related field.
* Experience with computer networking technology, PC hardware and software, service and support, security and disaster recovery
* Experience with T1, fractional T1, T3, Ethernet and enterprise wireless networks.
* Experience using packet capture tools such as Wireshark and / or tcpdump
* Working knowledge of HTTP, SQUID, SMTP/POP3, DNS, TACACS, RADIUS
* Working knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF and MPLS
* Basic System administration skills
* Effective communication skills
* Ability to deal with all levels of personnel, customers, outside vendors and members of the business community.
* Effective office administration skills
* Effective computer skills, preferably Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Valid Nevada Drivers license required.
* Must be able to work flexible hours and shifts and to work in any other Cox Communications of Las Vegas location as needed.

Recommended Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
* CCNA, CCNA Security, CCNA Wireless, CCNA Voice certification
* 802.11 a/b/g/n experience
* RedHat RHCT certification
* DOCSIS experience
* Knowledge / experience with VoIP

* Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting moderately heavy items such as computers and other electronic equipment. The work may require above-average agility and dexterity.
* Ability to frequently speak and hear detailed or important information and/or instruction.
* Ability to frequently use repetitive motions of the wrist hands or fingers.

Visual Requirements:
* Must be able to read system diagrams, electronic diagrams, books and other materials.

Tools And Equipment:
* May be required to use protocol analyzers
* May be required to use meters and oscilloscopes
* May be required to use packet generators
* May be required to use MPEG analyzer
