Come see for yourself.Provides patient neurophysiological monitoring support to surgeons, in accordance with the purpose, philosophy and objectives of the services. This is a key role of the Neurophysiological Monitoring Specialist who is involved in the medical center's surgical or invasive procedures requiring neuro monitoring. Collaborates with the surgery staff to support overall clinical functions where Neurophysiological Monitoring services are appropriate, as determined by the operating surgeon or the primary physician of an invasive procedure. Coordinates the scheduling of requested Neurophysiological Monitoring.Essential Functions: Sets up and monitors Inter operative Neuro Monitoring (IOM) cases. Advises continuously in the surgical and invasive procedures as appropriate. Identifies and solves problems effectively. Maintains all appropriate records related to IOM; documents patient care in a timely, accurate and concise manner. Maintains all equipment and insures proper Quality and Calibration validation. Cleans up and completes the closure of the monitoring, including records and equipment. Utilizes effective communication methods and skills following line of authority as appropriate. Communicate with the anesthesia team to minimize anesthetic effects of evoked potential and EEG waveforms. Seek medical interpretation and advice from Department Neuromonitoring Physician during IOM cases. Establishes effective working relationships with members of the health care team, patients and families. Collaborates and coordinates duties to support the medical staff in the appropriate procedures. Works will with the support staff that the IOM interfaces with. Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights. Demonstrates knowledge of the safety principles as identified within the institution. Performs efficiently in emergency patient care situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice. Demonstrates depth, breadth and currency of knowledge in area of practice and demonstrates competency in selected technical skills. Participates regularly in staff development activities for unit and department personnel. Initiates self directed learning and participates in continuing education to meet own professional development. Validates knowledge, skills and decisions; seeks guidance in areas of uncertainty. Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and all members of the health care team. Participates in appropriate service Quality Assurance activities Performs other duties as assigned.
