This is an open position with FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [DBN] The responsibilities for the Nuclear Reactor Engineer includes the following:
- Developing reactivity plans for power maneuvers. - Monitoring reactor core operation and performing applicable testing. - Conducting start-up physics testing. - Supporting / Coordinating new fuel receipt and tracking special nuclear material. - Providing control room support during power changes and responding to control room concerns related to the reactor core operations. - Preparing and reviewing procedures associated with reactor core operation and nuclear fuel management. - Initiating, investigating, and correcting problems within the FENOC Corrective Action Program. - Interfacing with and coordinating activities performed by internal and external engineering organizations and consulting service companies. - Managing and completing assigned activities to support timely implementation of required plant operations. - Interfacing with customers to identify needs and providing engineering solutions to facilitate operational effectiveness. - Working independently as well as in a team environment. - Performing Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties as assigned.
Qualifications at the Nuclear Engineer III level include:
- Bachelor?s degree in Engineering required. Bachelor?s degree in Nuclear Engineering preferred. - Minimum of 3 years reactor engineering experience in the nuclear industry or 5 years of related professional level engineering experience in a non-nuclear utility industry is required. - Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines. - Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to make formal technical presentations to various management levels. - Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. - Ability to occasionally work back shift or extended hours, based on plant needs. - Must reside within site-specific ERO response time.
