The UCLA Center for Prehospital Care is the leading emergency and prehospital academic center on the West Coast. One of only four centers of its kind in the nation, the Center is dedicated to advancing the systems and methods of EMS. We teach, test, and certify the people who provide care to the ill or injured prior to hospital admission. Under the general leadership of the Director of Fire Department and Law Enforcement Quality Improvement, the candidate assists in the provision of Continuing Education services for contracted fire departments. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: providing EMT level continuing education classes each month to a designated fire department, conducting annual EMT skills validation exams, providing direct field observation of basic and advanced life support providers by riding along on rescue ambulances as part of a quality improvement component, developing and/or providing educational presentations, maintaining records, generating reports and other duties as assigned. This is a 10% Per Diem position.


The ideal candidate will have a current Paramedic or Registered Nurse license in the State of California or be eligible for licensure in California, have at least four years of clinical work experience including a minimum of four years of work experience in an emergency department, must have or be willing to obtain a teaching credential such as the NAEMSE Educator Course or Firefighter Instructor certification1A/1B; current certification as an AHA CPR provider, ACLS, and PALS instructor certifications (preferred); be currently certified as a MICN, a minimum of two years of experience teaching basic and advanced life support EMS providers and registered nurses; detailed and working knowledge of the Los Angeles County EMS system. Previous experience as a Los Angeles County Prehospital Care Coordinator (preferred). Candidates must also have excellent verbal and written English communication skills with a strong working knowledge of English grammar and composition, and basic record-keeping procedures. Applicants must have the ability to prioritize tasks as well as be able to follow written and verbal instructions with minimum direction and supervision. Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues is a must. Candidates must have a valid unrestricted California Driver's license and be available to drive personal vehicle to off-campus locations for courses and special projects, and must be flexible and available to work a minimum of 3 shifts per month which may include weekdays, weekend days, and some evenings. The work requires the ability to frequently walk, stand for long periods of time, lift, carry, and balance; the work may involve heavy lifting (30-50 pounds frequently) and involves climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing (including the ability to perceive differences in colors, shades, or harmonious combinations or to match colors is required); hand-eye and motor coordination is necessary; the instructor may be required to perform venipuncture and dermal punctures including administering intravenous lines.
