Job Summary

The Birth Center at Benioff Children s Hospital provides care for women and babies throughout the continuum of pregnancy and childbirth, including fetal surgery. This 45 bed unit is a unique integrated service for high risk tertiary care combining well baby, postpartum, antepartum and labor and delivery that includes 9 triage/recovery beds, 9 LDR rooms, a well newborn nursery, and 3 surgical suites.

This position is administratively responsible for ensuring the quality of patient care in the Birth Center. Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Maintains twenty-four hour line management and responsibility for the administration of personnel, fiscal and material resources.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

Work Environment

* Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.

* Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.

* Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.

Required Qualifications

* BSN

* Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California

* Active American Heart Association CPR certification

* Active NRP certification

* Demonstrated leadership/management skills and excellent interpersonal relationship skills

* Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills

* Demonstrates knowledge and recent experience working with a complex obstetric population in a tertiary center. A minimum of 2 years recent experience in a Patient Care Manager or Assistant Patient Care Manager role

* The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required

Preferred Qualifications

* MS

* AWHONN Fetal Heart Rate Intermediate Competency

* OB RNC certification
