KEY REQUIREMENTS * U.S. Citizenship * Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required. * MSN Required;licensure as Nurse Practitioner in related specialty required. * Previous experience as a NP in long term care / acute care preferred. DUTIES:Back to top An advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) has prescriptive authority and provides care for an identified patient panel in collaboration with a physician. Core functions of a NP include diagnosing and treating acute and chronic health care problems, performing adult care check ups, and prescribing medication and treatments. Diagnoses and manages minor trauma including suturing. Teaches health promotion and disease prevention to patients. As a member of a dynamic profession in a rapidly changing health care environment, the NP mustbase practice on current and anticipated trends in health care and be committed to lifelong professional growth and learning. The NP provides quality care that meets national, VISN, VHA, and specialist society requirements and serves as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Back to top Basic Requirements:(1)USCitizenship (2) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. (3) Current, full, active and unrestricted licensure as a registered professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of theU.S.or theDistrict of Columbia. (4) Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement may be required. RN's appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English. A. Masters Degree in Nursing or related field with a BSN from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program and approximately 2 3 experience, or Doctoral Degree in nursing or related field from a regionally accredited university or college and approximately 2 3 years experience. B. Current unrestricted licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in any US state, commonwealth, territory or the District of Columbia, as well as national certification as a Nurse Practitioner. C. Meet administrative requirements for appointment under 38 U.S.C., Chapter 73. D. Meet performance standards of Nurse II and preceding grades.
