JOB DUTIES:

The NP functions in an interdependent role by implementing the appropriate standardized procedures (SP). By using the SPs the NP is able to change treatment regimen after observing signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, general behavior and physical condition, and determines if they are abnormal findings (Ca Nursing Practice Act, subsection(b) of Section 2725). Provide and coordinate the care of C- Surgery Service patients( GI/Pancreas ans Surgical Oncology), provide patient/family education, promote safe continuity of care. Participate in interdisciplinary and clinical rounds, provide education and support as well as make appropriate referrals. Document services rendered.

Serving as a member of the medical care management team, provides advanced nursing care across the continuum of acute care services to patients who are hospitalized on the C-Surgery Service. Act as a liaison between nursing staff, residents, and physicians to provide effective and consistent patient care. Coordinate patient admissions. Perform daily rounds on all C- Surgery Service inpatients, chart orders, and coordinate consultants. Perform and document comprehensive history and physical examinations on all inpatients. Accurately interpret all diagnostic data and formulate a plan of care in collaboration with physicians and other members of the health care team. Provide appropriate pharmacological management, independent follow-up care, assessment and problem solving. Provide patient education for disease process, pre/post operative procedures and outcomes. Dictate consultation notes, discharge summaries, and letters re patient care. Screen telephone calls from patients and families regarding care. Participate in lectures, grand rounds, conferences, and workshops. Assist with the development of research protocols, investigations, and clinical trials. Provide administrative support for physicians; assist in the development of critical care pathways and protocols. Development and implementation of progressive information technology alternatives in the inpatient setting. Participate in daily multidisciplinary care rounds.



JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate from an MSN program with NP specialty. CA RN License and NP certification. National Certification for NP

Skill in removal of chest tubes, and sutures/staples, central lines, and repair of simple lacerations
*

Knowledge and skill in BCLS and ACLS.

Knowledge and skill in wound care and treatment.
*

Ability to ready, interpret, apply, and or follow physician orders, policies, procedures, and written/verbal instructions.
*

Knowledge of UCLA policies and procedures.



4 years or greater of RN and or NP experience preferred. Experience caring for pre and post-op general surgery patients
