JOB DUTIES:

The NP functions in an interdependent role by implementing the appropriate \\"standardized procedures\\" (SP). By using the SPs the NP is able to change treatment regimen after observing signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, general behavior and physical condition, and determines if they are abnormal findings(Ca Nursing Practice Act, subsection(b) of Section 2725). Provide and coordinate the care of patients, provide patient/family education, promote safe continuity of care. Participate in interdisciplinary and clinical rounds, provide education and support as well as make appropriate referrals. Document services rendered.
The Pre-Operative Evaluation Suite Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with the PES Staff and physicians in an active practice to deliver preoperative health care services to patients and families. Major functions include performing a pre-operative evaluation and medical screening of patients having anesthesia for a surgery or procedure, offering recommendations for pre-operative care management, supporting patient and family decision making, supplementing physician and staff communication, educating staff members regarding pre-operative care issues, collaborating with the surgical team for pre-operative management, The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for maintaining efficient patient flow, clinical assessment, planning, initiating medical interventions and diagnostic work-ups, and providing patient, family and community education.



JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful completion of a Master's level Nurse Practitioner program as a Nurse Practitioner, California Nursing License.
Conform to the educational standards established by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
NP II shall maintain current status as outlined within the institution's credentialing committee guidelines.
Ability to provide direct patient care.
Skill in taking medical histories and performing medical exams, assessments and implementing appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic plans using established medical practice in collaboration with attending physician and/or nurse manager.
Skill in reading, interpreting, applying and following physician orders, policies, procedures, or written and verbal instructions.
Ability to interpret and act appropriately on results of diagnostic tests.
Skill in creating a teaching plan for patient and family education, and the ability to effectively communicate this plan and assess its effectiveness.
Skills in prioritizing heavy workloads and deadlines, with ability to follow through .
Skills working independently with minimal supervision.
Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with multidisciplinary medical team.
Interpersonal skills to interact with effectively with patients and families in a high volume, continuous public contact setting and develop a rapport with patients and families, many of whom may be anxious, apprehensive or depressed.
Ability to perform effectively with frequent interruptions and distractions.
Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues and physicians.
Ability to extemporaneously explain any facet of a patient care plan to interdisciplinary team members.
Skill using and knowledge of Medical Center computing systems.
Ability to participate, conduct and utilize research.
Ability to mentor staff.
Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner.
