Job Summary

Classification of Nurse Practitioner 1 or 2 will be determined based upon the qualifications of the selected candidate.

The Nurse Practitioner complements and assists the work of the attending faculty and surgical residents to provide integrative inpatient and outpatient care in the surgery services, which includes acute care, gastrointestinal, bariatric, colorectal, hepatopancreatobiliary, surgical oncology, breast, and endocrine surgery. The Nurse Practitioner serves as a high-level professional, whose activities will span the full range of both inpatient and outpatient care of surgical patients, taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care under the supervision of attending physicians and residents.

Full assumption of these responsibilities will follow a training period during which time the Nurse Practitioner will be monitored by a physician supervisor in order to determine that knowledge and skills have reached the appropriate level. The Nurse Practitioner will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Section Chief of General Surgery, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated.

UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Medical Center sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, Satellite Clinics, et al). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

Required Qualifications

* Two to three years general surgery or critical care nursing experience

* Active Nurse Practitioner licensure in the State of California

* Active American Heart Association CPR certification

* Current National Certification in the area of specialty, i.e. ANP, FNP, WHNP, Geriatric within one year of hire

* Current CA NP Furnishing License and verification of experience to furnish

* Registered Nurse as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing

* Completion from a college or university based Nurse Practitioner program

* Possesses the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position

* Master s degree

* Three to five years previous experience as a clinical nurse and/or one to two year(s) experience as a Nurse Practitioner
