Department Description

The Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery provides compassionate, state-of-the-art care for patients across the full range of vascular disorders including Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) aneurysms, carotid artery disease, hemodialysis access and venous disease. The program also treats less-common disorders including complex thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (involving the upper abdomen and chest) arterial graft infections, arterial blockage to the kidneys or intestines and thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS).

Division faculty have achieved national and international recognition as leaders in clinical innovation, surgical education, and research. The program is closely integrated with several specialized centers incuding the UCSF Heart & Vascular Center, a multidisciplinary team of vascular surgeons and cardiovascular specialists.

Job Summary

The Vascular Surgery Nurse Practitioner position has clinical, procedural, administrative and educational responsibilities in the care of patients with diseases of the vascular system, including aneurysmal disease, occlusive disease, venous disease and lymphatic disorders.

Under the supervision of the Vascular Surgery faculty and the Vascular Clinic Nurse Manager, The Vascular NP will have integrated roles in the outpatient and inpatient settings, with both team member and individual duties. These responsibilities will include preoperative and postoperative patient examination and assessment, diagnosis and planning; treatment implementation, coordination and continuity; performance of specific procedures; development of practice protocols and evaluation of quality of care; education of patients, families and other health care practitioners.

UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Medical Center sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, Satellite Clinics, et al). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required

Required Qualifications

* Completion of a college or university based Nurse Practitioner Program

* One to three years related experience as a Nurse Practitioner

* Two or more years of critical care or medical surgical experience

* Active Nurse Practitioner licensure in the State of California

* Current National certification in the area of specialty

* Current NP furnishing license and verification of experience to furnish

* Active American Heart Association CPR certification

* Board Certified Nurse Practitioner as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing

* Completion of a college or university based Nurse Practitioner Program

* Skills, knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position

* The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

* WOCN certification

Licensure/Certification
