NURSE PRACTITIONER OR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT, HEMATOLOGY/ONCOLOGY



HOURS: Rotating schedule

POSITION: Inpatient

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR NURSE PRACTITIONER:

*

Perform patient history and physical examinations.
*

Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic health problems.
*

Prescribe medication, including controlled substances as delegated in collaborative practice agreement.
*

Perform all procedures of registered nurses in accordance with generally accepted standards of nursing practice.
*

Perform advanced practice procedures as defined in Collaborative Agreement, which are within the scope of the collaborating physician practice, are in accordance with accepted standards of advanced practice nursing, and are consistent with the skills and training of the nurse practitioner. The NP must be privileged to perform such procedures.
*

Document assessment, management, and education clearly, concisely, and legibly within medical record.
*

Consult other health care team members in collaboration with physician to meet patient needs, while ensuring continuity of care.
*

Provide phone triage to assess patient's needs and conditions and responds appropriately.
*

Coordinate patient care activities with other members of the health care team, hospital, or community.
*

Initiate or participate in research through protocol submission, subject selection, coordination of protocol activities, data collection, or other associated activities.
*

Demonstrate compliance with documentation and coding requirements.





PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT:

*

Complete and document an accurate history and physical examination of patients.
*

Conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans.
*

Order and interpret tests, treatments and therapies within the scope of practice.
*

Prescribe medications, including controlled substances to the extent delegated including non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
*

Order, interpret, and perform laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures, serves as surgical first assist as assigned.
*

Provide clear, concise and accurate information in the electronic medical record.
*

Initiate and perform consultations in accordance with Rush rules and regulations.
*

Make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and/or agencies.
*

Provide direct patient care in assigned areas, which may be in a hospital or ambulatory setting.
*

Demonstrate clinical competency in all area of clinical practice including: medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice based learning and improvement, systems based practice.
*

Skill in preparing and maintaining electronic and paper medical records.
*

Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.





KNOWLEDGE:

NURSE PRACTITIONER

*

Current state of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure required.
*

Current state of Illinois Advanced Practice Nurse- Certified Nurse Practitioner licensure required.
*

Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification required.
*

Minimum of six months of clinical practice as RN required.
*

Masters or Doctorate Degree in Nursing.
*

Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner educational program.
*

Nurse Practitioner Certification by a national certifying organization approved by the Illinois Board of Nursing with renewal as required by the national certifying organization in specialty that is in alignment with practice.
*

CPR and ACLS certification required.



PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

*

Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant licensure required.
*

Current certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required.
*

Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Studies training program required.
*

Masters Degree required.
*

CPR certification required. ACLS or PALS certification preferred.
