JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB SUMMARY: Coordinates the strategic planning, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of projects for the Oncology Management System (OMS) Group within the Cancer Center at BIDMC. Provides supervision and mentoring for OMS staff. The Project Manager is responsible for managing the adult chemotherapy order sets in the OMS, BIDMC's Chemotherapy Ordering System. The manager will work closely with Disease Program Leads in Hematology/Oncology to ensure order sets are reviewed and approved on a regular basis. The Project Manager will work with Information Systems, Cancer Center Leadership, Pharmacy, Nursing, Clinical Trials Office, and other stakeholders to communicate and coordinate any/all development, maintenance, and management needs of the chemotherapy order entry application as it relates to the support of the chemotherapy order sets within the system. In addition to OMS responsibilities, the Project Manager will provide project management support for strategic priorities within the Cancer Center such as Survivorship Planning, Value Pathway development and other projects as they develop. Facilitates decision making by governance bodies and provides project management of activities. This position involves interaction with medical staff, pharmacists, research and clinical nurses, research personnel, administrators and other Medical Center personnel.
* Provides leadership in developing and implementing projects focused on redesign and revitalization of medical practice in the assigned unit. Works closely with senior administrators and clinicians to facilitate the team's work and manage the team's initiatives and projects.
* Participates in testing, training, implementation and live support of the OMS application. Develops and implements policies and processes related to safety goals, standards for process, quality control and work flow of OMS regimen maintenance and creation.
* Maintains knowledge of organizational and departmental policies and procedures related to chemo and non-chemo administration.
* Manages multiple complex projects simultaneously. Provides guidance and coaching to operational project leaders and sponsors. Develops successful team culture and ensures all departmental processes are efficiently and effectively applied.
* Develops project scope, goals and objectives, mission statement, success criteria, assumptions, and team membership through rigorous analytical processes in collaboration with project sponsor(s). Partners with sponsors and team leaders to strategize team project plans. Focuses on critical success factors, project milestones and deliverables and develops contingency plans.
* Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: 2-3 Indirect Reports: None
* Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Pharmacy required.
* License State required.
* 3-5 years related work experience required and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required
* RN or Pharmacist licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
* Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
* Clinical and research oncology experience at an academic medical center is preferred.
* Prior experience in Clinical Research and/or Chemotherapeutics.
* Masters in Business Administration, Informatics or related field preferred.

* Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.
* Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and priorities for functional area. May make recommendations for department policies, practices and programs. Manager or Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.
* WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
* ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
* KNOWLEDGE: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
* TEAM WORK: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
* CUSTOMER SERVICE: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
PHYSICAL NATURE OF THE JOB:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
