Under the general direction of the ophthalmology medical staff, the Ophthalmic Photographer performs photographic type testing as ordered by the physician. The ophthalmic photographer uses a variety of specialized cameras and equipment

CHALLENGE AND CAREER GROWTH: Opportunity to produce fluorescein angiograms, fundus photographs, electroretinograms, and electro-oculograms which aid ophthalmology attending and resident staff in the diagnosis of ophthalmic disease.



POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:



*

Performs digital serial color fundus photography, including stereo photography of the optic nerve and posterior pole on 35 mm film, Polaroid film or digital system.
*

Performs fluorescein angiography on the digital capture system and using the Zeiss fundus camera, Heidelberg HRT, and Optos FA Map.
*

Performs ICG angiography on the digital capture system.
*

Performs anterior segment photography using the photo slit lamp, including photos of the external lids, orbit, conjunctiva, cornea, iris, anterior chamber and posterior chamber, goniophotographs.
*

Performs external photography of the lids, orbit and full face using the 35 mm camera with a macro lens attachment.
*

Obtain ordered photographs in the operating room for patients requiring exams under anesthesia (EUA).
*

Performs Ocular Coherence Tomography on the all the types of systems available., e.g. Zeiss system, the Heidelberg systems.
*

Performs venous puncture for intravenous injection of ordered contrast. Must maintain skill and knowledge to perform successfully.
*

Performs general photography for department and faculty
*

Maintains the OIS database and digital imaging system, including organization and digital storage of photographs for clinical and medical records use
*

Maintain photography equipment such as: cameras, digital imaging system and all OCT machines.
*

Maintain inventory of photography supplies.
*

Participates in research study by obtaining certification for study protocols and uploading or downloading results to the various reading centers.
*

Documents all activities in EPIC accurately and appropriately. Maintains patient confidentiality and updates EPIC EMR knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis.
*

Maintains a data base that includes patient counts for glaucoma and retina OCTs, FAs, and all testing completed.
*

Perform photographic/video-audio duties as assigned at departmental conferences, off-site meetings and symposiums.
*

Assumes maintenance duties for Conference Theater and all department AV equipment as back up.
*

Completes other assignments and tasks in the department and eye center as assigned by the Administrator and/or Chairman.



POSITION QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

*

High School Diploma is required. Completion of a Bachelor s degree and/or advanced medical training is a plus. Certification required: Certification by OPS as ophthalmic photographer with a minimum of 2-4 years of experience is highly desired
*

CPR or BLS certification also required
*

Proficiency in the use of a wide variety of cameras and equipment and electronic imaging.
*

Basic knowledge includes general ocular anatomy, basic retinal pathologies, basic anterior segment pathologies, external ocular pathologies, color fundus photography principles, and fluorescein angiography principles.
*

Manual dexterity, effective communication, precision and accuracy.
*

Must maintain CPR certification.
*

Solid communication skills with strong interpersonal skills to be able to work well with patients and all levels of staff.
*

Experience with dye injections is highly preferred
