Berkeley Labs Advanced Light Source (ALS) Division has an opening for an Optical Physicist Postdoctoral Fellow. You will have a key role in developing experimental and theoretical methods for world-class x-ray and optical metrology of synchrotron optics, as well as for analysis and evaluation of the performance of optics and optical systems for manipulating highly-coherent and powerful x-rays.
What You Will Do:
Design and implementation of complex state of the art x-ray and visible light optical systems.
Development of optical and x-ray metrology methods and instrumentation.
Research in advanced x-ray optics for advancement of the ALS scientific program.
Analysis of experimental data, documenting and publishing of the results of the investigation.
Additional Responsibilities as needed:
Operate, maintain and develop optical and x-ray metrology tools.
What Is Required:
Recent Ph.D. in optics, physics or related discipline.
Substantial experience performing accurate physical/optical measurements.
Demonstrated experience in computer-based modelling of optical systems.
Demonstrated experience of the mathematical analysis of experimental data and systems.
Demonstrated highly effective oral and written communication skills.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Experience of the design and use of complex optical and x-ray metrology instrumentation.
Familiarity with synchrotron radiation optics for hard and soft x-rays.

This is a 1 year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 4 of years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
Salary will be predetermined based on student/postdoctoral step rates.
This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
This position requires completion of a background check.
