JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY The Optician is responsible for fitting patients with eyeglasses for the Temple University Department of Ophthalmology. Primarily the Optician administers analyzes and interprets prescriptions written by the ophthalmologist or optometrist; will take eye measurements to insure proper lens placement in the eyeglass frame, and verify the accuracy of the finished product. In addition, the Optician may also manufacture A (grind) lenses from raw materials and cut them to fit into the frame. In addition the incumbent will determine which eyeglasses are the best suited to meet patient needs; handle inventory control and provides assistance for insurance re-imbursement for the optical department. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
At least five years directly related experience in Optical department or Ophthalmology practice. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and techniques of optometric practice.
*Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
*Ability to work with a diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and patients.
*Ability to operate all standard office equipment and software including MS Office.
This position provides a background check.
