Outpatient Coder Clinical Data Specialist I

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is a world renowned organization dedicated to the progressive control and cure of cancer through programs of patient care, research, and education. Due to expansion of MSKCC ambulatory clinics, we are seeking an experienced Outpatient Coder (Clinical Data Specialist) to join our growing team. Coders at MSKCC have the opportunity to telecommute after 12-18 months working on site. In this role, you will analyze medical records, extracting clinical, pathological, therapeutic and epidemiologic data in accordance with established ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 AMA coding principles and guidelines. The Coder ensures that data is optimally coded for research purposes, financial reimbursement, planning, statistics and regulatory reporting. Communicating directly with physicians to ensure that clinical documentation is coded timely, accurately, and in compliance with CMS guidelines and national coding initiatives. JOB REQUIREMENTS: -Bachelor Degree andor RHITRHIA, Certified Coding Program highly preferred. -2+ years experience in outpatient coding with extensive knowledge of ICD-9CM coding, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. -Experience in automated healthcare environment required. -CCS, CCS-P, AAPC certifications preferred. -Strong computer, verbal and written communication skills necessary, as well as analytical skills in identifying and assigning ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding per established guidelines.
