JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY 6 NORTH OVERVIEW
BWFH 6 North is a 35 private bed general medicine/telemetry, progressive care unit. Services are provided to adults and older adults with complex medical and psychosocial conditions. Some of the medical conditions reflect acute and chronic care diagnosis such as Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Diabetes, Pneumonia, and other clinical conditions. The unit has a complete array of monitoring systems, such as telemetry and patient and staff safety devices/equipment such as bed/chair alarms, and patient transfer equipment. Integrated within the medical unit are eight beds designated for addiction recovery. The Addiction Recovery Program (ARP) services adults seeking voluntary detoxification admission for alcohol and opiate misuse. Under the direction of the nursing leadership team, care is provided by direct-care nurses, and in collaboration with medical providers, including mid-level practitioners (NP/PA). Interdisciplinary team members include Case Managers, Social Workers/Counselors, Physical Therapists, Pharmacists, Nutritionists, and Respiratory Therapists. Support staff include Patient Care Assistants (PCAs), Mental Health Workers (MHW) and Unit Secretaries. 6 North is fully operational 24/7. 6N is staffed by hospitalists (Attending level providers) 24 hours a day. Access to on-site Pharmacists/Respiratory Therapists, and other ancillary support 24/7. Online medical record/MAR- EPIC. Automated medication dispensing system (Omnicell)
The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) functions as a member of the patient care team, under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), and proficiently and consistently performs all aspects of the PCA role. Responsible for supporting the RN with clinical tasks, including but not limited to blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, applying simple dressings, using aseptic technique and responding to medical emergency situations utilizing Heartsaver CPR and AED skills. In addition, the PCA II is responsible for responding to the needs of patients and family members and taking an active role in the efficient operation of the unit. Assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice.
SCHEDULE: 40 hours,night shift. Every weekend.

High School Diploma or GED certificate required. Certified nursing assistant or current nursing student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing or equivalent med/surg clinical rotation. AHA Heartsaver, CPR and AED program required.
Staff adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards. Successful completion of an approved nursing assistant training program. Ability to effectively speak, read and write using the English language. Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math and reading testing. Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements, in order to measure height and weight, intake and output and calorie counts. Ability to accurately interpret and utilize basic medical terminology and abbreviations. Ability to enter and retrieve computerized information. Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout assigned shift. Physical ability to meet core job requirements in accordance with practice setting demands, for the patient populations regularly served. Effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff. Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work. Ability to manage stress related to patient care issues, changing hospital climate and personnel issues.
Math and Knowledge Assessment test required for candidates who are not currently enrolled in nursing school.
