I. Position Summary: This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The PBX Operator is responsible for processing incoming, outgoing and internal telephone communications traffic at a high level of speed, accuracy and courtesy. Handling numerous patients and all general information calls, overhead and pocket paging, alpha and digital of hospital staff. Monitoring the fire alarm, Cor-0 and other emergency alarms and is responsible for immediately responding to all emergency situations with ease and accuracy. Follows established guidelines and other policies to protect confidential information. Performs clerical and other duties assigned. Assists with covering other shifts when needed. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

II. Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: None.

B. Education:

C. Experience: 1-year PBX experience or telephone customer service experience in a high volume environment necessary. Previous Northern telephone system experience and medical setting desirable.

D. Special Qualifications: Ability to retain and process large amounts of information. Have the ability to be multi tasked. Computer knowledge, typing skills 40 or more words per minute, Microsoft Outlook and Excel.

III. Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the PBX Supervisor. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
