JOB DESCRIPTIONADULT AND CHILD MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR POSITIONS, NORTH SHORE MEDICAL CENTER, SALEM AND UNION HOSPITAL CAMPUSES. FULL TIME AND PART TIME POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Exciting opportunity to work directly with adults or children on inpatient psychiatric units at Salem Hospital (adults) or Union Hospital campuses (child). These positions involve participation in patient care rounds, establishing therapeutic relationships with patients, managing the milieu and facilitating psycho education and therapeutic group activities. Positions require some scheduling flexibility, including every other weekend and rotating holidays. A degree in human services preferred but not required.
North Shore Medical Center Psychiatry service includes a comprehensive array of psychiatric services including 66 inpatient beds over two campuses, partial hospital program and three very busy outpatient clinics. Over the next 2-3 years, inpatient psychiatry will be expanding to 90 inpatient beds all on the Salem campus. NSMC is a member of the Partners Health Care Network that includes MGH, Brigham, McLean, Newton Wellesley Hospital and other Partners institutions.
Job Description: Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, performs direct care to patients on our Pedi Psych floor in a restraint free environment to promote the recovery of patients. Also provides appropriate medical attention for patients requiring care in voluntary and involuntary situations, under the direction of the Registered Nurse to promote the recovery of patients.
Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and basic nursing functions. Requires successful completion of CPI Training as the unit is restraint free. Requires intense attention to ensure a safe environment. Ability to communicate with patients of diverse age, population, and multitude of cultural/ethnic backgrounds.
1 yr experience in an acute care, hospital setting or related field.
A minimum of a High School education or equivalent
Rotating weekend/holiday commitment.
Current CPR certification
Experience on an inpatient mental health unit
Completion of an Associates or Bachelors degree program in Behavioral Health or Human Services, or degree eligible.
